SRAM treats the X01 Eagle 12-Speed Trigger Shifter with as much detailed attention as the rest of the drivetrain and introduces well-executed updates that build on its 11-speed predecessor's success to get the most out of your ride.

In addition to its ability to shift through a staggering 12-cog cassette, the X01 Eagle Trigger Shifter features a brand new internal shifting mechanism that results in a more precise trigger feel and smoother shift action compared to its 11-speed predecessor. It also still includes SRAM's Zero Loss technology for nearly instant shift response when you throw the lever heading into a steep climb or revving up out of a corner.

The updated internals boast improved longevity, as well as the ability to upshift by five gears at a time. The shifter also comes with SRAM's Matchmaker compatibility, allowing it to integrate cleanly with the rest of your cockpit and letting you keep the shifter, as well as various suspension and dropper post remotes, arranged in one easy-to-access location on the bars.

Typical SRAM Quality Broke after a week

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

SRAM is super innovative. Unfortunately their testing and QA is not so much. This shifter broke after maybe 15 hours of use. Not fun when your out on a trail. Was hoping this would be better after their XX and XO shifter (2x) disasters of having the little 3mm nuts fall off inside. Apparently not. Still not a reliable product. Will hang out a couple weeks trying to get warranty service now.

Excellence

Yes, XX1 will save you like 13 grams or whatever but this really is the standard in shifting these days. Very hard to beat an X01 build.

Best shifter in the line up.

This is my preferred shifter for an Eagle groupset. I am currently using it with a GX group and it makes the whole experience better. The adjustable paddle and light action are significantly better than GX or NX shifters, and this does not have the exorbitant price tag of the XX1.

Among All Levels, This is IT

All EAGLE components work across levels, (XX plays well with NX and vise versa) but only the X0 and XX shifters have the adjustable upshift paddle. The SRAM shifter is highly adjustable with their matchmaker clamp but I found the upshift paddle of the GX a little less ergonomic. Get that paddle right, and you can jump 5 upshifts with a single swoop. Coming down the cassette is crisp, fast, and positive, just like you'd expect from SRAM.

Why is the return lever so short?

Okay, first off, Sram drivetrains are silky smooth and I love them. I prefer almost every aspect of Sram drivetrains over Shimano, except for one huge glaring miss... why is the return lever so freakin' short?

At least for me, my thumb is at it's longest when using the longer downshift lever (the one in front). From there, the radius arch of my thumb is moving away from the shifter, so I have to make an un-natural movement with my hand and reduce my grip on the bar to perform a downshift. Anatomically and ergonomically, this leaves me scratching my head and wondering who tested these things for Sram.

You may wonder why I have put up with this and not been using Shimano then. One word... Eagle. That's right, I'm a weenie and love that 50t bail out gear. However, Eagle's reign of soaring high above Shimano on the cog number game is about to come to a quick close. Finally Shimano has released a 12 speed drivetrain and that just means it's a matter of time before it trickles down to XT and SLX. Then I can have my 12 speed drivetrain with a comfortable shifter that's actually made for the human hand. Not to mention the option if using your index finger to downshift!

Nice and solid

Great shifter with smooth action. The adjustable lever is great so you can really dial in the position so you are not reaching for a shift. Add in the Matchmaker with your Guide RSC brakes and your cockpit is looking nice and clean!

I've had the XO1 group set on an SB6 and now on an SB5.5 and love the group set.

This shifts real easily.

Intuitive

Really one of my favorite pieces from my my new drive train. I spent a year using the previous gen GX shifter and this is a significant upgrade. The internal bearing as opposed to busing makes for a much crisper shift! Sometime I feel like this thing knows I want to shift before I do. Very intuitive and ergonomic. Pro tip: If your'e riding in the rain a lot or snow biking, cut a little piece of skate board grip tape out in the shape of the trigger and you will never slip your thumb again.

Very nice

    Very nice craftsmanship in this shifter over the GX. All the machining and finish makes for a nice setup. Either have your LBS setup, or take great care in setting this up yourself. So far riding has allowed me to up the front chainring in size, allowing for faster downhill descents. Aside from the high price point, there’s not much to complain about with the X01 setup. Shifts are smooth, crisp and precise.

    Dialed!!!!!

      SRAM has got it figured out. This thing is dialed! The entire Eagle system is a huge game changer. I can't wait to get out on my bike more.

      No complaints. Not much to say about a shifter, other than it does what the name says, and does it well/smooth. Plus, the range of gears you can go over with one push of the thumb is an added bonus.

      I went from a 32 in the front on my 1x11 to a 36 in the front with eagle and the math says I still got an easier granny gear. Nuts!

      I have been loving the new SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain. It has performed with minimal maintenance—not recommended—and helped pursue my passion to ride diverse terrain with one bike. With any new technology in the bike world, there is a cost to getting on the newest and greatest advancements—the Eagle is fresh to the market and currently the only 1x12 drivetrain available—and the price tag reflects the exclusivity. Per usual, prices do tend to drop after time (although there is no concrete evidence of that happening anytime soon). However, even as is, I think the price tag associated with the new 1x12 systems is well worth the money and will only increase any on-trail experience and offer a whole new range to you daily ride.

      Precise and smooth, just like the previous generation 1x11. Match it with Guide Brakes for a clean installation.

      It clicks, and the derailleur shifts. It feels almost exactly the same as the 11 speed version, with an extra click. The paddles are a TOUCH longer than the 11, which is nice, makes them easier to find when hammering a downhill looking for a downshift.

      The extra gear you have been wishing for is finally here. Eagle is really quick and clean shifting. Now you have a 50 tooth bail out gear for those long and hard climbs. I personally jumped up to a 36 tooth chain ring to have a larger gear. With that 36 tooth, when the chain is in the 50 tooth gear it is still easier than when I had 34 tooth.
