Gear up.

With the amount of nail-biting concern over chain strength that accompanied 11-speed drivetrains, SRAM had its work cut out to create the even thinner X01 Eagle 12-Speed Chain 12-speed Chain. In true SRAM style, the company met this challenge head-on and redefined chain construction along the way. The final product is a chain that's 0.35mm narrower to accommodate that extra cog, with the strength to withstand trail shredding abuse and the smooth-shifting accuracy we expect from high-end systems.

The Eagle chain starts out with even flatter sheets than standard chains and goes through an unprecedented 37 steps to develop each plate. This results in precisely shaped pin holes that let the pin sit flush with the plate for increased security and durability.

SRAM incorporates its Smooth Link technology, which removes the inner face chamfers that were used to help facilitate front chainring shifts. This leaves a smooth plate face that moves across the cogs quietly and reduces chainring wear in its ability to avoid trapping mud against the moving surfaces. It also adds a Hard Chrome treatment to the rollers and inner plates to further resist wear and promote durability.

  • A 12-speed chain that redefines 1x drivetrain functionality
  • Smooth Link technology quiets the ride and reduces chainring wear
  • Hard Chrome treatment increases durability
  • Precision engineered for exceptional longevity
  • Works exclusively with SRAM Eagle drivetrain components

Never skips a beat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this chain on a few different builds and it has been flawless for me. Keep it clean and it will keep you happy!

never an issue

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Built up 4 bikes with this chain and never an issue. I have a couple running now probably longer that I should, but hey, I may as well push this stuff and really test it. If you're running eagle, get it.

Like an Oil Change for Your Bike

I'm on my 2nd X01 Eagle chain. Going on almost 2 years, I have never had a failure so you can't ask much more from a chain. I have noticed they do not show wear on your traditional chain stretch guides so I've just been replacing them every 8 to 12 months. With the cost of SRAM cassettes, I'd rather be safe and stay on top of chain maintenance rather than buying new cassettes. I've run this with both eagle chainrings and 11 speed (one up components switch) chainrings with great retention and durability.

Great chain!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Gets the job done! Lasts a long time and is easy to maintain. It will be a little lighter than the GX but not quite as light as the XX1. I even ran one of these on my 11 speed for a while and could not tell a difference.

12 steps of ain't got no issues

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's a chain, and with some lube this thing seems to last an eternity. I check it for wear weekly and finally decided to replace because it simply wasn't stretching. Call it yearly maintenance.

Spend the extra on XX1

Snapped at the start line of race 24 hours after install. Save yourself the embarrassment and spend the extra $20 on a XX1 or KMC.

    No news is good news!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Not much to report on this chain as it has about 100 miles on it and shows no sign of stopping soon! It feels awesome to be able to put faith in your chain and not worry about replacing a link in the middle of the woods. Not to mention you can put all of the power down you want without feeling like your going to slam your knee into the stem when it breaks. So far so good!

    It works

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It's a chain. It works, works well, and the darker quick link is a small touch in helping aid in locating where it's at easily.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love my SRAM eagle, I have about 1000 miles on it and it has just been amazing. I would say my chains are lasting about 500+ miles of off road riding, lots of steep torque filled climbs. No chain breaks, just smooth and quiet.

    Best Chain I Have Used

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

SRAM got it right with this chain and the oil-slick colored quicklink makes it easy to locate fro removal or as a starting point for applying chain lube.

On a related note, some people say that EAGLE is hard to set up and finicky, but if you pay attention to appropriate chain length (and B tension) it works out just fine

SRAM has got it figured out. This thing is dialed! The entire Eagle system is a huge game changer. I can't wait to get out on my bike more.

Best, stiffest, crispest, most awesome chain ever. Done.

      Wicked Awesome

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is what I'm rocking on my SB6 and I've been loving the Eagle 12 speed drive train a ton. I've had no issues and the climbs are easy thanks to the range of gears.

I went ahead and picked up a spare chain just in case. I tend to like to have spare parts around for key items that I don't want to have crap out on me while on a trip.

      broke in under 30 rides

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I managed to snap this chain in under 30 rides, which was a bummer. ive always had good luck with my X0 11-speed chains but was pretty disappointed when this one that doesnt have a whole lot of ride time on it managed to melt apart under my feet. i was able to replace the links but am now naturally a little weary.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I went from a 32 in the front on my 1x11 to a 36 in the front with eagle and the math says I still got an easier granny gear. Nuts!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been loving the new SRAM X01 Eagle drivetrain. It has performed with minimal maintenance—not recommended—and helped pursue my passion to ride diverse terrain with one bike. With any new technology in the bike world, there is a cost to getting on the newest and greatest advancements—the Eagle is fresh to the market and currently the only 1x12 drivetrain available—and the price tag reflects the exclusivity. Per usual, prices do tend to drop after time (although there is no concrete evidence of that happening anytime soon). However, even as is, I think the price tag associated with the new 1x12 systems is well worth the money and will only increase any on-trail experience and offer a whole new range to you daily ride.

(Bike Whips and) Chains Excite Me

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Do you have a 12sp drivetrain? Then this is the chain for you. Or the XX1 if you want to be extra shiny.

I used this first with an Evil Calling and will be throwing it on my Yeti SB5.5. Seems like it held up well, I'll give a more long term durability update after riding more.

      This one goes to 12.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nigel from Spinal Tap needs a new amp, because this chain goes to 12. Works great with my eagle drivetrain, so far running nice and quiet after a couple hundred miles.
