Oval over all.

With the advent of an elliptical shape, the X-Sync 2 Eagle 12-Speed Direct Mount Oval Boost Chainring is the avatar of all things cutting edge in SRAM's off-road catalog. It combines the simplicity of one-by, compatibility with Eagle's knee-saving bailout cog, and the chainline required for Boost rear spacing with the increased traction and efficiency of an ovalized chainring. As with the round counterpart, each tooth is CNC-machined to support the chain's inner- and outer-link widths, providing a variable thickness from tooth to tooth so the chain and chainring effectively lock together as you pedal while also clearing mud and other debris.

It also features the updated X-Sync 2 tooth profile. Where the original X-Sync teeth took on a boxy shape, X-Sync 2 is narrower to accommodate the 12-speed Eagle chain and features teeth that more closely resemble those of a shark. Boasting aggressive profiling, these teeth hold the chain securely in place like a shark's tooth digging into something. The key difference being, of course, that the Eagle chain is designed to accommodate the ring's teeth, while chances are good that a real shark's teeth will cause some pretty—err—dire compatibility issues with whatever they happen to get a hold of.

The benefits of this new profile aren't just limited to its chain retention ability or providing an opportunity for us to write gratuitously about sharks. It mimics the wear profile seen in the original X-Sync teeth for increased durability, and it also features edge shaping to help prevent chain suck over time. The direct-mount interface makes swapping rings a breeze, giving quick flexibility to adapt to different shapes of terrain.

  • A chainring that increases traction and pedaling efficiency
  • Ovalized shape makes pedal force consistent throughout the stroke
  • 3mm offset for ideal chainline with Boost hubs
  • Updated tooth profile provides confident chain retention
  • Direct-mount interface makes changing rings a snap
  • Integrates with SRAM's groundbreaking 12-speed Eagle drivetrain

34t oval

With 52t rear cassette I found the 34t oval to allow me to use wider range. The real benefit for me is no more knee pain. Not sure why but every time I use round the pain comes back. This is my third sram oval and use it from 17 mile quickies to marathon races. Never let me down and lasts forever.

love it

I've used it several times

so far I really enjoy the Oval ring. I can tell the difference when switching from a regular ring back to the oval. Find it really helps out pedaling in sand and distributes power more evenly. I will be putting ovals on my bikes from here on out.

All About The Ovals

I've put it through the wringer

I've run oval rings on my last 3 bikes. I've had a variety of brands and options, but this is by far my favorite so far. This works flawlessly with my eagle setup and allows me to take even more advantage of the giant range of gears on the 12 speed setup. Keep things compatible and spinning smoothly with a perfect fit for you eagle setup.
