Item # SRM0507

Built narrow and strong, specifically for Force 22.

Like the rest of Force 22's completely overhauled components, SRAM's PC-1170 was also tuned specifically for the new 11-speed drivetrain. SRAM refers to the group as 'True 22,' as that's precisely how many useable and trim-free gears you receive with the new groupset. With the encouragement of cross chaining as part of the trim- and rub-free 'True 22' system by SRAM, the groupset's chain needed to be designed to handle the rigors of every imaginable gearing combination. The result is the PC-1170 Chain, pulling the best technology from its PC-1071 to create an entirely new, 11-speed chain.

The first characteristic to note is that the chain's link pins are hollow -- these hollow, chrome hardened pins save 20 grams or so over a chain with solid pins. In addition to being lighter, they're plenty strong so you can expect the PC-1170 to have equal durability. It's quite similar to the PC-1071, though SRAM reworked it to have even more chamfer on the outer plates, added a new inner plate finish, and made it narrower. It's made specifically for 11-speed drivetrains, and it mates perfectly with the tooth shaping and pickup/release points on SRAM's Force 22 cassettes and chainrings for flawless shifting performance.

You can install a PC-1170 Chain without special tools thanks to SRAM's PowerLock silver connecting link. No other sub-6mm chain in the marketplace shares this feature. And unlike the occasional headaches we're all familiar with when it comes to Shimano HG pins and Wippermann connecting links, the PowerLock link is as strong or stronger than any other link on the chain, and it won't hinder shift quality in the least.

The SRAM PC-1170 Chain is compatible with both SRAM and Shimano 11-speed drivetrains. Please note that while the PowerLock installation can be done tool-free, it's recommended to be used only once due to the extremely close tolerances required by the narrow 11-speed design. So if you must break your chain for maintenance reasons, a new 11-speed PowerLock link will be required for reassembly.

The PC-1170 Chain comes packaged in SRAM's long-lasting PowerLube grease to provide you with protection, lubrication, and quiet-running operation right out of the package.

    Good as always

Whenever I need a new chain I go for the Sram PC-1170. It's a great price and gets the job done. The powerlink is a nice feature.

    Go to chain

I've put it through the wringer

I'm a big Sram fan, so naturally I buy their chains. This is solid balance between price and performance.

    Good Price - Solid performance

I've put it through the wringer

Not much to say about a chain that works well. Has lasted me a long time, and has plenty of life left.

I've put it through the wringer

Smooth and functional. Works great with an 11 speed drivetrain.

    What is there to say?

I've put it through the wringer

Chains aren't the sexiest part on the bike but it is just a scooter without one. Durable and easy to install.

For a 1x 11 set up, with a chainring with narrow/wide teeth, will this chain work perfectly, or is it better to use the Sram X1 chain designed for narrow wide chainrings? Or is it necessary to go to a different chainring?

    reliable piece of machinery

I've put it through the wringer

Have not broken a link yet on my CX bike and I ride hard !

Will this chain work with an XT 11-46 cassette (1x11 MTB application)? I like the power link vs shimano pins.

Yes, I run that set up on my Yeti SB 4.5 and it shifts amazing!

    Makes my wheel move!

I've put it through the wringer

Replacing chains regularly helps my bike feel like new. This chain is quiet and smooth shifting. Just make sure to soak it in some degreaser before installing as it comes with sticky, gross preservative all over straight out of the package.

The chain comes pre-lubed. That tacky substance is factory lubrication, which I like leaving on to start. Soaking the chain in a solvent out of the gate is a little counter-intuitive.

I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

SRAM has some pretty reliable chains. Does the job, quiet, and smooth shifting.

    Good chain

    I've used it several times

Works great with Shimano Ultegra 11-speed drive-train. Very smooth and quiet. I like that it comes pre-lubed. I also like connector link vs. having to jam pins through with my crappy chain tool.

    Value Chain

I've put it through the wringer

Good value for a less expensive option than the 1190 chain, for your Red 22 or Force 22 drive train. Replace your chain and cassette at the same time to improve drive train performance. Makes you feel like you have a brand new bike!!
