The GX Eagle Trigger Shifter pairs perfectly with the exceptional GX Eagle Rear Derailleur. While the shifter feel is not quite the same as other SRAM shifters, the mechanical accuracy is readily recognizable. Shift action is accurate and reliable, as befits a SRAM product.

If you are looking at upgrading to Eagle and confused about all the different models, let me break it down for you. XX1 Eagle is the top of the line with a hollow pin chain and single piece milled Cromoly cassette. X01 saves about two Benjamins and is functionality the same except for weighing 40g more than the XX1. The GX eagle cuts some corners, using a standard chain design and the cassette is stamped and riveted like a normal cassette instead of milled.
FUNCTIONALLY THE GX EAGLE IS THE SAME AS THE XX1 AND X01. I cannot stress this enough. The only reason to go with the X01 or XX1 over the GX eagle is if you are an super extreme XC rider trying to save every gram or just really like gold and willing to drop and extra grand. With that cleared up, onto the review.
Installation.
The Sram GX eagle is surprisingly straightforward to install. Sram has a fantastic video that breaks down the installation and adjustment to a 10 minute video. With the proper tools it took me an hour, included the time it took to install the XD driver. But if your bike already has an XD driver, installation is a breeze.
Performance.
The smoothest shifting I have ever had the pleasure of using. With every gear change the chain seems to lock perfectly into the next chainring, even when downshifting 5 or 6 gears at once. With the narrow wide design being utilized on the jockey wheel as well as front chaining, I have had no issue with the chain slipping or coming off, even after testing it off some intense drops on a hardtail. The clutch keeps the chain very taught and prevents it from slapping around on rocky sections.
Overall the best drivetrain for the dollar right now. The only complaint I have about the GX groupset is I am not a fan of the front chainring mounting design on the new cranks. Save some money and use your old cranks and just purchase the drivetrain. I'll take my old XTR four bolt cranks with a Raceface chainring over the Xsync design anyday.

I now have two bikes with a GX Eagle drivetrain and had previously come off one with a X01 Eagle drivetrain and have been thoroughly impressed with it. Shifting is still plenty crisp with it once properly tuned and I can honestly say it performs nearly as well as X01 shifter. The weight difference is nill in my opion (GX Eagle shifter being 122g vs X01 Eagle being 109g according to Pinkbike).
Sram Matchmaker makes for easy and clean integration with Sram Guide brakes. It allows for plenty of adjustment for the correct ergonomic feel.
I personally prefer the feel of Sram's shifter (over Shimano), though it is personal preference. These feel like any other of their recent version and I was nothing but impressed with it. If you're in need of a upgrade to your drivetrain, the GX Eagle is a budget friendly option that performs well above its price tag.

For the last two years I have been riding X01 Eagle on my bikes. As much as I love X01 Eagle I appreciate saving money. When SRAM announced they would be releasing GX Eagle I was very excited. GX Eagle is the perfect balance of performance and price. This shifter is smooth, direct, and compared to its siblings only weighs a few grams more. I highly recommend this shifter.

Not sure I can tell the difference between this and its pricier brethren. All the weight difference seems to be in the cassette and cranks--not shifter.

It works, but not as nice as the X01 shifter. It's like buying Old crow Whiskey, compared to Makers Mark whiskey. They both get the job done, but one is so much more enjoyable. I put the GX parts on my fat bike, as that's just a beast to ride anyways. Reliability seems to be there however, and I have no complaints in that department.

Great shifter in a great group at a great price. If you want to up the game on a GX Eagle setup, get the X01 shifter. X01 will give you bearings vs bushing (smoother feeling shifter), lighter materials, and a clockable shifter lever. If you're not worried about the small stuff, the GX Eagle shifter will do the job reliably, and do it well.

Makes the derailleur move and the shifter change cogs, so that works well. It does feel a bit different than xo1/xx1 eagle stuff, with a bit more of a mechanical feel and less of a smooth click when changing gears. The shift paddles are a touch smaller, but not so much that I have ever had an issue finding them for a quick shift.
