Appropriately named.

The Sportful Total Comfort Men's Bib Shorts have a big name to live up to, and they don't disappoint. With a variable density chamois that provides ample cushion, you're unlikely to find yourself in discomfort, even on the longest rides. And the compressive fabrics further enhance comfort by reducing the risk of muscle vibration and road chatter causing premature fatigue.

Sportful builds the Total Comfort bibs out of a blend of Lycra materials, each chosen for a specific job. The majority of the shorts are comprised of the mid-weight 220g Lycra, which acts as a compressive layer. Basically, it envelops your muscles in a firm embrace, which reduces muscle vibrations, a common cause of fatigue. The seat of these shorts is built from Lycra Ceramic, which has added abrasion resistance, helping the shorts to hold up against long miles in the saddle, without wearing thin. Flatlock stitching minimizes the chances of chafing at the seams. The materials used throughout these bibs are breathable and wicking so it pulls moisture away from your skin, keeping you cool and dry.

For the insert, Sportful chose its Total Comfort chamois, which is aptly named. It has three densities of foam, placing the firmest underneath the typical hotspots areas helping to evenly distribute pressure. This insert is up to 18mm thick in certain areas, which minimizes sit bone pressure without excessive bulk elsewhere. When it comes to inserts that are built for all-day rides, this one is up there with some of the plushest, most forgiving options we've tried.

They ruined them

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

The original version of these bibs were amazing. Better than anything else I've worn. The straps weren't the best, but you could get used to them.
This version is awful.
The pad is still great, but they've changed the side of the legs to a mesh which is more see-thru.
But the part that makes these unwearable is the hem. It's like a ruffle.
It is wider than the rest of the legs. I even tried a smaller size and it flares out so much that it doesn't touch my leg at all which makes having a gripper useless, plus you look like a ballerina with the ruffle. I don't have Pro legs, but I also don't have sticks either.
Sportful, what were you thinking!!!!

Design Change

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Runs a tad smaller than before. Narrower shoulder straps without that nice broad, rubbery feel. The straps are placed quite close together on the front waist seam. Same stitching on the body but with more comfortable materials. Sportful has kept the same Total Comfort chamois. And that's the reason we buy these, eh?

Shorts were great, straps were OK.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I picked these up on a whim, and was very impressed with the lower half of the short, but the upper half just didnt seem to fit me quite right. Like Jon said below, my litmus for bibs is if I forget I'm wearing them, they're good. With these, the lower half of the bib disappeared completely, the pad was nice and dense and worked great for a couple mountain bike rides. Fit is tight, so go up a size from what you would normally get. I have a 32 inch inseam and weigh about 165, and I went with a Large.

The straps did not disappear on me, however. They were too short for my torso length, and I found them biting into my shoulders not in a painful way, but in a noticeable way. The tightness also made nature breaks a bit more difficult, as the only way to pull down the front of the short required bending over quite far at the waist. I would consider going up to an XL, but I feel like then the shorts themselves would be too loose.

Overall, I would still recommend these based off the quality of the construction and the great pad and short, but be wary if you are a taller thinner rider because of the strap length.

Totally Comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Got my first ride in wearing the TC bibs this weekend. My litmus test for a bib is: "If I don't notice anything, that's good". These bibs did just that over a 15 mile MTB ride.
I would size up based on the size chart, I'm a 30-31 in waist, and the mediums fit well, and I don't think smalls would have made it over my hips.
Once on, these are really comfortable. The outer leg material has a very soft hand, and excellent stretch. The chamois is comfortable, and doesn't feel bulky. Inseam length is standard to other bibs I have, extending down to the base of my quads.
