It was hard not to cheer Vincenzo Nibali on for victory as he put in a well-timed attack on the Poggio in the 2018 edition of La Primavera. In recent years it's been a race for the sprinters as neither the Cipressa nor the Poggio softens up the field enough to prevent a bunch gallop to the line. It'd also been 12 years since the Tifosi had an Italian winner at La Classicissima in Pipo Pozzato. A great team and equipment is a must as well as good apparel since the weather conditions change often on the 291km route that sees the riders in the saddle for over 7 hours. When Nibali raised his arms in victory as he crossed the line, on his hands were Sportful's BodyFit Pro Gloves which we're sure didn't hurt his chances of winning on the day.
The combination of light, variable-thickness padding, a synthetic suede palm, a microfiber wiping surface, and a stretch Lycra back is all on the pro-issue checklist creating a barely there, non-bunching pair of gloves that all cycling enthusiasts can benefit from. This doesn't really come as a surprise since Sportful receives valuable feedback from all of the teams it sponsors. The palm is hard wearing and grippy for perfect bar feel and provides protection if you happen to become detached from your bike like many of the favorites on the run into the final climbs. It's further bolstered by the silicone grippers on the palm. And while gloves were probably the last thing on the Shark of Messina's mind as he turned himself inside out to stay in front of the sprinters on the Via Roma, they certainly gave him all the grip he needed for his daredevil descent of the Poggio that set him up for victory.
