I find, after one season, that these pedals have a lot to recommend them. They are easy to get into, easy to release, and they do not accidentally release. Power transfer is excellent. The major weakness is that setup is somewhat messy due to the need to build up the shoe's sole in a way that makes it flat. A variety of shims are included but it requires some effort. In addition, exact torques of two different levels need to be carefully set. Get a torque wench or torque screwdriver in the proper range. One also needs to lubricate them every ride or every other ride and the bearings also need lubing more often than many pedals. Overall, though, I find them a fine choice and I would not replace them with something else.

Do these 3 hole cleats work with Speedplay Ultra Lights (which usually use 4 hole cleats)? And do they come with screws and any other hardware required? Thx much.

Great so far

Have been using Speedplay pedals for 13 years, started with X and moved over to light action. They work great and I love the simplicity. What I don't like is cleat wear. Specifically, the aluminum cover plates wear and the cleats begin to rock excessively side to side. The plates seem to be the only thing to wear and unfortunately they can't be bought separately from the cleats. These new walkable cleats have replaced the soft aluminum plate with a stamped steel plate. I am hopeful the steel won't wear as quickly as the aluminum. If so, this will be an outstanding improvement. Another plus is the integrated covers. Its nice to unclip and put your foot down and not feel metal grinding against the pavement. I really like Speedplay pedals; cleat wear is (I hope that becomes was) the only shortcoming for me.

I am feeling great with this cleats

It is working great, but my complaints is the plastic cover is very easy to lose it, I losed one already after 300 miles.

The walkable cover should improve the durability of the Ultra Light Action cleats by protecting the screw heads, in addition to making them easier to walk in.

These cleat covers are a real advancement for the cyclist who clips in and out of the pedals. I no longer dread the idea that the precarious screws on top of my cleats will soon be ground down to a nub after I step onto the asphalt or if I forget my separate cleat covers. I do not have any trouble clipping in or out of the pedals with these cleat covers. One can use them with safety and security and perform better on one's bike! One note: after two hours of attempting to install these cleats with the accompanying covers, I read the enclosed instructions and discovered that the stackable base plate is to be used with these cleats. The screws that are included with this kit are long enough to fit into the shoes with the additional thickness of the base plate. Lastly, the two plugs that are included in the cleats and are supposed to be installed when walking fall out EVERY time! Don't bother using them; you'll only lose them after a few feet of walking!
