Speedplay's innovative pedal design effectively moves the pedal platform from the spindle to the sole of your shoe. While this design nets benefits in weight, it has one drawback: no cycling shoes; no cleats; no pedal platform. The Platformer 2.0 addresses this with a simplified, one-piece update to the classic Platformer.

Instead of a clamshell design, the Platformer 2.0 is a single piece with a recessed side that encompasses the pedal. A steel clip inserted in the unit's distal side securely locks the Platformer 2.0 in place. Whether you're just spinning around the block to check shifting or shuttling between your car and the registration tent, you can save your cycling shoes for cycling and delegate the administrative details to your casual kicks.

Don’t buy!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These are so small they are useless unless you are a six year old kid. It also says on the packaging to only use occasionally and for short rides. Absolutely horrible product, do not waste your money

Just confirming that these are sold as pairs.

such a smart platform

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

it was unclear whether these would work on my new pave pedals and i'm happy to report that they do. makes it easy to hop on my bike in regular shoes. i really like these little things.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These work as advertised, and fit perfectly on my speed play zero cromoly pedals. Easy to get on when going for a short ride with the family. Easy to get off when getting more serious. They do flip over exposing the non grip side, but with a quick and easy toe flip problem solved.

basic design flaw

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a one-sided pedal that flips upside down every time you lift your foot off the pedal. Really annoying since the underside is un-serrated, and the hard plastic can be slippery. What were they thinking? I'm thinking of gluing small sinkers to the bottom or drilling in 4 small bolts to shift the weight balance so that the bottom stays down. This is a high quality but poorly designed pedal.

I see your point. In theory these pedals seem like a great solution but with poor execution. I'm surprised Speedplay didn't think about the issues you raise as being annoyances at the time the pedal was being designed. Maybe they just wanted to get something cheap out the door and on the market. If they address your points and create something more user-friendly, I'd probably buy them for twice the price.

I almost clicked send on my order and thought, no, there's better solution and Speedplay owes it to their loyal users (18 years here) to create a better version of this product as described by Michael S. Come on, Speedplay!

A Bit Small for Large Feet

To Small for Large Feet

I have a size 11.5 shoe and these pedals barely cover the ball of my foot, I'm riding on the tips of my feet. They are OK for riding short distances in a pinch, but are useless and uncomfortable as a daily driver.

Works as advertised

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fits my light action pedals perfectly. Easy to attach and detach and once installed stays secure. The pedal does have a tendency to flip upside down so to right it you'll have to draw it up with your toe and then step on it after it flips which is pretty easy after a few tries. The surface area is large and grippy enough to be stable. I use it to ride with my kids which often requires me to stop suddenly as they cross my path or stop in front of me. For the price its nice to have when you need to go on a casual ride and don't want to bother donning your clips or need to walk a bit afterwards.

Update: I discovered upon hard riding the metal pin would fall out but as it turns out I didn't push it in all the way. There is two little nubs that lock the pin in place but requires you to push it in really hard until it sort of clicks in. Removal however will also require something small to pry it out past the little nubs. Once clicked in, the pin never falls out and is secure even under hard pedaling.

Careful not compatable with zero pedals

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Nice product not compatable with zero pedals

I just ordered a set for my Light Action. Hope this will work well when using the trainer during the winter months.
