Why We Like The Torch 3.0 Cycling Shoe

Compared to all other Torch shoes from Specialized, the Torch 3.0 Road Shoe is the stiffest, most innovative in the bunch. Suitable for intermediate- to advanced-cycling, the Torch 3.0 utilizes a carbon sole that's constructed for directional rigidity and outstanding power transfer. It also features a scientifically-tested Body Geometry design that provides proper hip-to-foot alignment for a boost in power and increased efficiency. Specialized bonded the mesh upper to tough TPU for seamless ventilation, and the rear heal is all synthetic leather for a snugger fit than previous iterations of the Torch. The Torch 3.0's also updated with dual Boa dials for a quicker fit.

Just the right amount of stiff and light

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Bought these on an incredible deal and I am beyond satisfied. Very stiff and extremely light they are incredibly comfortable even for my foot that likes a lot of room in the toe box. Power transfer feels great with Shimano SPD SL cleats on Shimano Ultegra pedals. The venting and grey color keep my feet cool, but in these 40 degree late winter days they aren’t cold when paired with wool socks. Sizing (44.5) was spot on compared to my size 10 altra running shoes.

Better than expected

I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but these shoes are working great for me. They are stiff, however, I would much rather have stiff shoes and feel the transfer of power than have my feet dancing around inside them. I can see how some people with wider feet might not like these but I feel a very snug fit with some wiggle room in the toe box. The boa straps are fine...unless you are a triathlete I'm just not sure what the rush is.

Super stiff and uncomfortable upper

Just wanted to chime in and share my short experience with these shoes. As others have stated the BOA dials are not quick release, which is annoying but I could have lived with it. The real issue is the extremely stiff and uncomfortable uppers. I expect the sole to be stiff in a cycling shoe (power delivery and all), but the within 6 total hours of use one shoe had rubbed a spot raw on my left heel area and the other shoe was pushing in an extremely painful way right into my inner ankle. I tried to break in the shoe by flexing the uppers back and forth for a bit, but to no avail. Guess it's back to my old Torch 1.0 shoes that are falling apart for now. On a positive note, the sizing was accurate and correct

Seem to be variations in the shoe

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I like the shoe in general. The one issue I raise for purchasers--there appears to be some variability in fit from shoe to shoe. I tried on several identical pairs (same size and model) and they each fit differently. It took a while to find one that fit well.

You don't get what you pay for.

Familiarity:

I've been wearing Spesh shoes for over a decade. I thought I'd step up to the Torch 3.0 from the 2.0 that I loved. BIG MISTAKE. These hurt my feet, super uncomfortable and stiff upper. The BOA is not quick release which makes getting out of them a PIA. They are hotter than the 2.0 and on and on. Stay away from these.

I have average C width feet but these shoes felt tight even though I went with the next largewt size, as recommended. The manual release BOA's were a deal, breaker. I can't understand why they are in the manufacturer's product mix.

Good shoe but…

Familiarity:

It is my second pair of those shoes. I loved the first pair so much I wanted the same. Well they look the same but when wearing them I feel some pressure points (hotspots) that are barely tolerable, especially under the medial malleola… Maybe the shoe is more rigid than the old one, and it will soften over time, but right now I have to add some cushioning to tolerate them…

Since I had worn Specialized in the past I knew these shoes would do well and they did not disappoint

I have been trying to find a shoe that does not cause pain and is under $200.00, well this one did come in a little over but just a little, but was well worth it, for those that complain about not having a quick release for the boa, I mean the difference is like what 10 seconds. For me the fit and comfort are tops and this checks both boxes for me, For me after trying Fizik, Giro, LG, Pearl Izumi and Shimano, these are by far the best fit and comfort I have had.

Good average shoes, but pricey for it.

Good looking shoes, very comfortable with roomy toe box, my issue is with the materials, the front end material is not smooth and it can get dirty easily. I got the white ones and its very hard to clean, most times when it gets dirty, the stains wont come off at all. The BOA system is not automatic when released, the cord needs to be unloose manually as well. I feel that the construction is not good enough for $225, i would recommend the shimano RC7 instead.
