Description

S-Works Turbo RapidAir Tire

The new S-Works Turbo RapidAir tires are developed closely with Deceuninck–Quick-Step with some hefty goals in mind: make the all-around fastest, lightest, and most puncture-resistant tires possible, with a ride quality that rivals that of tubulars.

The new design came from years of in-house development and testing. It features a flexible center construction that smooths out road imperfections and keeps rolling resistance low, while Specialized's exclusive GRIPTON compound leads the industry in both speed and cornering grip. The wide tread design and stable sidewalls deliver precise handling while diving hard into corners, while the cross-woven Blackbelt breaker does a great job fending off flats. As for the set-up, RapidAir tires seat easily on any tubeless-ready rim, and they can often be seated with just a floor pump.

  • A fast, lightweight road tire that mimics the ride feel of tubulars
  • RapidAir design makes for quick and easy tubeless setup
  • GRIPTON compound balances high grip with quick rolling speed
  • 120 TPI casing offers a supple ride without sacrificing durability
  • BlackBelt protection layer helps fend off flats

Love this tire but then today ...

I've absolutely loved these tires since first installation over 1400 miles ago. After that number of miles, even the rear tire showed little tread wear. I run them tubeless on Roval Rapide rims with 80 psi in front and 90 in rear. They sealed the first time and hold air extremely well. Very supple and fast on the road. Had absolutely no problems until today when I had a catastrophic blowout (see photo). I couldn't identify anything on the road that I ran over so not sure what happened. So, not knowing what happened, I'll keep riding this tire and just hope this doesn't happen again anytime soon!

Wow why so much hate for these tires in the other reviews? I've ridden thousands of miles on the 28 and 30 and they're great. I run them tubeless. Very supple, smooth, grippy. The 30s feel smoother than the 28, didn't think 2mm extra width would make that much of a difference but it really does. Did have a cut once that continued to have a slow leak even with a tire plug. Fixed it with a vulcanizing patch on the inside and never had another issue. Only major issue I have encountered is sometimes they come completely unseated when fully deflated (like when I add sealant). Luckily I have never had a puncture that won't seal while on the road, but I imagine that if I end up with a completely deflated tire I'll have to put a tube in there.

Steer Clear of these tires

I would only buy this tire if you have a team car behind you with spare wheels. Rear flatted on first ride. Slice right through middle of tread. Front flatted after 4th ride. Slice right through middle of tread. Terrible puncture resistance.

These suck

UPDATE: These Suck. Yes, they seated easily. Yes, they were soft and supple. Too soft and supple, and so now I've got a hole that won't seal in probably less than 300 miles. That center strip reminds me of the old Michelin tube tires that got flat so easily. NAIVE INITIAL REVIEW: I tried them first on Zipp 303s (my road setup for gravel bike), then moved them to HED Ardennes Black+ (road bike) where the 26mm width seems more at home. The 26mm in tubeless is actually a bit narrower on HED wheels than 25mm Conti 4000s. So far so good. The difference in feel between tubeless and tubes are subtle but these seem to have nice ride qualities. I have maybe 250 miles on them including 10 miles in a downpour and didn't have any issues (but I was being extra careful). I'll look forward to updating this after I log several hundred more.

A bit difficult to install on Mavic UST wheels. They are supple over bumps and fast as crap downhills. Run them at 92 psi in the rear and 88 in the front

I bought a pair and within 100 miles I flatted and I ended cutting them off of my rims. That took finesse as I ride carbon rims. These tires are over priced for the longevity and performance.

Best Tubeless Tire

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I’ve run this tire, 26mm for two years and now 28mm. I ride about 3500 miles a year and not one flat! I do change them every 1000m but they are still bullet proof and fast. I do have a set of new ENVE’s 29mm but I’m afraid to change! I run 80psi front and 85psi rear, fyi. I’m 6’3 and weigh 185, also, FYI.

Garbage

On my second set in less than 1000 miles. First set was replaced under warranty for blistering and casing coming apart. Second set has been on for few weeks and is already starting to chunk in the center and not hold air. What a complete waste of money.

Sorry to hear. I’ve used these for two years now without any issues. Could be user error.

Very peculiar, thanks for posting as a possible issue to look out for. Was there anything unusual about your setup? I assume you are running these tubeless? What PSI? What sealant? Did you confirm compatibility between tire/rim? Thx.

Same thing happened to my tires after approx 1500 miles.
