Too short in the torso

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Bought these for my husband who wears the same mtn bike clothes every week. He's 6'1 and about 170 pounds. A medium in everything and usually a 31/32 in pants. Purchased the L based on other reviews and they were still too tight in the straps and cut into his shoulders. Otherwise they fit. I just can't imagine the XL giving him the right amount of compression so sending these back.

Short In The Body

Familiarity:

The shorts portion fit perfectly, but the actual bib straps were stretched to the max pulling the chamois up and too tight for comfort. I?m 6?2, 34? waist. I?m worried an XL would be too big in the waist for a relatively tall guy like me.

Comfortable but there are some issues

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are comfortable bibs. The size can feel small when you're off the bike, but once you're in the leaned over position the straps fit better and the bib is quite comfortable. The thigh and back pockets are very convenient. My issues are durability and the location of the fly. The fly is cut a little high so peeing can be a bit of a battle. The bibs are developing holes between the padding and the spandex/lycra of the bibs after only one season. It's also a bit annoying that they're transparent. Overall, the bibs are great for the price but don't expect them to last very long.

smaller than the previous version

Familiarity:

ive had a few pairs of the previous version of SWAT liner bib, solidly size medium (30" waist). The mediums were wayyy small in this version. Returning for Large.

Really nice

Familiarity:

I've been wearing these liner bibs under my Chrome bike shorts on both my road and mountain bike rides for the past couple of months and found it to be a super comfortable combo. The fabric breathes well and I really like the padding and how it doesn't extend into the front of the shorts. The swat pockets are awesome also. They can hold a good amount of stuff (gels, snacks, tube, etc.) and because they're affixed to the bibs, nothing moves or shifts around on your back like it sometimes can in the back pockets of a jersey. I first purchased size Medium and ended up getting a Large since the Mediums felt just a little bit short in the body. Highly recommended.

The only mtb liner I?ll ever use.

Familiarity:

Specialized nailed it. Truly. An amazing amount of pockets and one of the most breathable bibs I?ve used. I can carry a whole days worth of snacks and my camera all without the need for a hip pack. Easy access for when nature calls, and a nice chamois for a forward position while climbing to earn some turns.

New favorite

Absolutely incredible! And they didn't put padding in the front! Finally the mountain bike clothing world is starting to make designs that make sense for men. There are a couple other companies doing the abbreviated chamois now and this is the best one I've tried. I tried swat bibs a few years ago and didn't like them, they were heavy and the mesh was stiff and weird fitting. These are light, comfortable, well ventilated. Also they aren't nearly so transparent as the pics make them look. Of course they go under your shorts but I was glad they didn't look goofy like those pictures. The chamois looks and feels thick but on the bike it felt minimal (in a good way). These are even better than the giro liners....which I love! Sizing was definitely on the more relaxed side (a positive).

I do want to start this review by saying that I am typically not a fan of bibs because the shoulder straps get on my nerves after some time. Surprisingly enough I hardly noticed the straps on these bibs and didn't get bothered by them at all while riding. The three pockets in the back easily have enough room to stash a cliff bar bottle and even my swat deflect jacket when I was not wearing it. Another pro is the bib back pockets are separated from the bottom part of the bib and allow easy access to the pockets if you wanted to throw on a part of shorts over the bibs. My only qualm with these is I feel like the inseam is a little too short for me in a medium and generally wear a 32x32 in pants and feel like the chamois rides pretty tight in the groin region. Also, I did see someone was asking about use for gravel grinding. I took these out for a 30-mile gravel grind split the time between being on road and chunky double track. While on the double track I definitely did wish that I had a thick chamois and would say if you are on a nice forest road they would be fine but if you are looking to grind some chunkier sections of trails a different chamois would provide more relief.

Good, but one issue

I am primarily a mountain biker and therefore have gotten away with wearing short liners for most of my life without any issues. It was until this season that I fully understood the benefits of wearing bib liners out on the trails. My first few pairs were the Zoic carbon bib liners (with similar storage to swat) and I fell in love. When I got these I thought I would love them even more, but sadly I cannot say that has been the case. From the waist down they are extremely comfortable, I would even say my favorite liner I own. The chamois is honestly the best I have for long days out as it is on the thicker side (not overly thick) and stays in place really well without getting in the way. The material is very lightweight and breathable so they can be worn on the warmest days without any excessive sweating issues. My main issue with these bibs has to do with the placement of the straps. On my other liner bibs, the straps skirt the nipple area perfectly so that I don't have any chafing issues. With these Specialized Mountain Liner Bib Shorts + Swat the straps go directly over my nipples causing some serious issues. Now, this is honestly the first time I have had this issue with any bibs and I was a little surprised. The more I carry in the back swap pockets the worse the issue gets. So If I am wanting to ride in these bibs I do have to wear a base layer. I personally do not love riding in base layers, especially in summer, as I typically run really hot and prefer a single layer up top! So they have been designated my shoulder season and winter bibs so I can wear a base layer underneath.

Feature Packed

I'll keep this simple and say these are the best bib liners I own. Pros: Nonintrusive chamois that offers the perfect amount of padding SWAT pockets for days - plenty of storage room for a multitool, snacks, a tube... Breathable lightweight material Cons: - - -
