Ambush + ANGi MIPS Helmet

Connect it to an app on your phone and the next thing you know, you'll have live tracking on your location, so if a wayward tree branch or nasty rock garden cuts your ride short, your designated contacts can find you.

Large is not very large
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit:
- Runs small

- L

Bought a new POC L/XL, and it was fine, other than the fact that the it sat too far down on my head - the retention system hit my ears and the brow of the helmet was so low I had to crane my neck up to see ahead. Returned that one, and got the Ambush instead. It was too small and I could barely fit it on my head. Until now, any large/xl helmet fit me fine, not sure what changed in the helmet world, but pretty sure my head is the same size as ever. The search continues.

Needs additional padding
- Familiarity:

- True to size

The helmet is lightweight and the size is good (doesn't look like a bubble on the head). The reason I returned the helmet is due to no padding in the rear inside. The front to middle/top of head is padded but there is absolutely zero padding from the top to back of head. If one were to fall and hit the rear/back of the head, the inside plastic support bands would probably slice/cut into the head. When wearing the helmet, I pushed on the rear of the helmet and I could feel the edges of the plastic support bands sharply pushing into my head. A back of the head impact may possibly result in getting stitches. Not a chance I am willing to take. The fit was also slightly off for me - the helmet support tightened nicely in the front and rear but was a bit loose on the sides - did not fit my head perfectly.

Skeet skeet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer

Skeet skeet, sweat dripped down my eye balls... Those that sweat may not get along with this one. The mips pad ties line up with your eyes creating a constant flow down to your eyes that literally stings. I had one of my worst crashes ever in this helmet, landing on my shoulder and head (broken helmet) off of a 30ft jump. The siren started going off on my phone once I crashed (due to ANGI) and I scrambled to disable it so my wife wouldn't be worried. I had no lingering concussion symptoms which was impressive given the blood showing inside the broken helmet. I will probably get this again in the comp model so I don't have the sweat issue with the pads. Such a bummer that a great helmet could be ruined by the oversight in sweat management.

Sizing runs big
Bought a size Medium based on the Specialized fit guide, It was about a full size too big. Helmet looks nice and well built, I wished it would have worked out.;
