Designed to make pumping a pleasure.

A pump is a pump is a pump, unless it's the Silca SuperPista Ultimate Pump, in which case it's as much a work of art as a tire inflator. Designed to make pumping up before a ride an exercise in aesthetic and functional perfection, the SuperPista has a hand-turned rosewood handle inspired by top-of-the-line Japanese knife makers, and a stainless steel barrel and hardware that are machined to NASA-level tolerances for unbeatable performance. The included Schrader and Presta chucks sit in a magnetic dock strong enough to keep the handle locked down when you lift the SuperPista, but are easily removed with a firm tug so you don't have to bend down to release the hose. Instead of a traditional +/-5% industrial gauge, Silca opted for a laboratory-quality +/-1% gauge that reads all the way to 160psi. Pumping with cleats on can be a pain, so the SuperPista's extra-large base is optimized for standing on with any type of shoe and weighs more by itself than most standard floor pumps, providing a reassuring feel and unbeatable stability. Even the hose was originally designed for race car and aircraft brake lines, so it is capable of withstanding up to 12,000psi, just in case.

  • Stainless steel body
  • Rosewood handle
  • Aircraft quality hoses, investment cast lugs
  • Maximum inflation pressure of 160psi
  • Compatible with Schrader, Presta, and Dunlop valves

Not worth it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this pump for about 2 years. So far I've had 2 gauges go bad (current gauge is off when compared to SKS digital gauge), 1 hose fell apart, leather plunger needs to be lubed every few months, check valve stuck, chuck rubber is junk...etc...etc. I had a specialized pump before this that I never had to mess with.
Silca has been responsive with each of the problems above. Which I appreciate. However, I just wouldn't recommend this pump to someone.
Hope this helps

Very Disappointing!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After reading all of the hype about this pump, I decided to buy one (when CC had them on sale) even though it was still very expensive for a floor pump. It doesn't work effectively on threaded valves, which wear out the gaskets very quickly, and it frequently slips off of non-threaded valves as well. As others have mentioned, the hose connector on my pump came apart too, but it was replaced under warranty by Silca. I thought my answer for the valve attachment slipping off of the tire valve would be to purchase the locking ("hiro") attachment but this has been an example of just "throwing good money after bad" as it still doesn't seal properly on threaded valves and even on non-threaded valves it frequently slips off. This pump has become an expensive floor decoration as I wind up using a much less expensive pump which works properly every time. This was a very disappointing purchase! I definitely do NOT recommend anyone buying this pump.

Fantastic until the hose connector broke

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The pump worked extremely well until the hose connector broke. I emailed Silca to describe the issue. They promptly sent a new hose and indicated there was a problem with the early hose connectors. I have a number of other floor pumps from the past 25 years that have also failed. With the new hose, I'm hoping I won't have to make further use of the 25 year warranty.

Fantastic until the hose connector broke

Pretty but not reliable

Supposedly this is top quality, ready to be an heirloom. But after about 15 months of gentle use it failed, the hose came out of the base. Our old Park pump is a lot more reliable, if less "classic."
CC was very helpful and arranged for them to send us a new hose. Now it works.

    Silca Perfection

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If it's possible to have an airgasm, then this pump is the way to do it. It's less-expensive alternative (the SuperPista) is 99% as awesome for high pressure at 55% of the price, but has limitations for low-pressure uses.

I've had a love affair with Silca pumps since I first started riding bikes some 30-ish years ago ... in fact, my original Silca Pista from the late-1980s is still going strong with just a couple of overhauls to replace gaskets and the leather plunger in that time.

The only downside with my original pump is that the stroke is so short compared to many more modern pumps; but modern pumps use a lot of plastic and wear out ... one gets tired of having to replace chucks (or buying a new pump, because it's only $5-10 more than buying the replacement chuck).

When the new owners of Silca moved production from Italy to the United States and came out with the new Silca SuperPista and the SuperPista Ultimate, I knew I had to have one.

Yeah, they are quite spendy, but on the other hand, it truly is the last pump you will ever buy. The SuperPista Ultimate is made of steel and does have a replaceable gauge for low-pressure uses. Because it's steel it has some heft and feels really solid, stable, and steady when in use.

The SuperPista is made of aluminium, and does not have a replaceable gauge. While the base is exactly the same size as on its big brother, because of its light weight, it feels just ever so slightly less stable when pumping up your tires. But seriously, we're talking about a percentage point here.

Neither pump has any plastic in any critical areas; in fact, the only plastic I can find is the lens on the gauges.

Like the original Italian-made pumps, all the critical parts are serviceable and replaceable; and the pumps come with a 25-year warranty. In the bicycle industry, where technology (and companies) comes and goes, it's refreshing to know that there are some constants.

Did I need a new pump? No, because like I said, my original Pista is still going strong ... but the new ones work even better, and it's nice knowing that I will never need to buy another pump again.

    Yes, it's great

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Yes, it's overpriced; yes, it's over engineered; and yes, it's just a pump. But what a pump! Beautifully designed and executed, works perfectly every time.

    Phenomenal Pump

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'd say I have put this through the ringer, but the ringer with Silca is not for another 20+ years. I've used it a bunch and am amazed every time. The detail and workmanship is incredible. Smooth action, comfortable handle. It is truly a piece of art. The sticker will shock anyone but it's well worth the money whether you're a collector or an avid that wants and end-all pump never having to be replaced. I still can't believe this thing!

    Silca Super Pista Ultimate Pump

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been wanting one of these pumps for a long time, but the "sticker" shock was too much. So, when CC had one of their great 20% off sales-- I jumped. The quality and workmanship of this pump is beyond belief-- it's a work of art. The thing is perfect without a blemish anywhere. It is also the smoothest operating pump I have ever used. Not to mention you can't beat a 25 year warranty !!!! If you buy one you will not be sorry....

What is the difference between the low pressure and the 160psi?

    Best Answer

The low pressure pump-- 60psi high volume-- mountain bike....

The high pressure-- 160psi high pressure-- road/track bike....

The difference is simply the gage. The pump components are identical. The low pressure gage is easier to read at low (cyclocross for example) pressures...
