High wire.

While the combination of "wire" and "air" typically calls to mind the unpleasant thought of high-wire walking, Sidi's Wire Carbon Air Shoes are the exact opposite of unsecured, risky stunts. With an updated, secure Tecno 3 Push buckle system and a stiff, durable carbon sole, the shoes' only concession to maximum protection comes in the form of the increased ventilation of their thoroughly perforated Lorica Vernice uppers. The combination of these three features makes the Wire Carbon Air the peloton's top choice when July's high mountains and high temperatures conspire to ruin an otherwise pleasantly grand tour.

Like its predecessor, the slightly redesigned Tecno-3 Push system involves two ratcheting dials, Sidi's proprietary, non-stretch wire, and a customizable fit at the instep and forefoot. The Push in the buckles' title refers to the incorporation of a red button on the unit that releases the ratchet's lever for quick adjustment, saving you the onerous task of flipping the lever up yourself. At ride's end, pinching two release buttons on either side of the dial loosens the wire. As with all of Sidi's fastening hardware, you can easily fiddle with the Tecno 3 Push buckles in the saddle.

The new model year of Wire Air shoes sees a return of Sidi's superlative vented carbon fiber sole. It shares the same construction method that Sidi developed with its Carbon Lite sole, yet it relegates the "Lite" model to the heavy bin by losing an additional 38 grams in the process with no corresponding loss of efficiency. The weight loss may be due to the negative space of the vents, which shuttle cooling air into interior channels. The vent can be opened or closed depending on the temperature and your preferences — even in the middle of a ride.

Also returning from previous top-shelf offerings is Sidi's improved Heel Security System (or HSS), which keeps your foot positively planted in the shoe. It involves a rigid, composite band that can be tightened or loosened to adjust the amount of play you allow your heels. The shoe's tongue and instep strap have both been padded generously to allow for supreme comfort with tight buckles. Finally, all of the buckles, wires, outsole lugs, and heel retention devices are fully replaceable.

  • Vented carbon fiber sole (roughly 38 grams lighter than the Carbon Lite)
  • Vents can be opened and closed, even while you’re riding

Quality Product!

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45.5

This shoe is typical of Sidi quality, which is to say that it is "top-notch". It's a well-constructed shoe made with quality materials and everything functions as it is supposed to. It's easy on and easy off and easy to adjust on the fly. I especially like that parts that frequently wear are readily available and easily replaceable at a moderate cost. I have another pair of Sidi shoes that I've worn regularly for 9 years so I know Sidis will last!

Very comfortable shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 43

I normally wear a size US 8-8 1/2 and have a difficult time finding cycling shoes that fit properly. I bought the size 43 and they fit perfectly, I think that would be a size US 9-9 1/2. The closing and opening system is awesome and easy to use. My new favorite shoe! I have about 7 pairs and this is by far the most comfortable for the long rides.

Best shoes ever

Great fit, super comfy, incredible power transfer. I own s works 7 shoes, fizik r1b, and these are by far better shoes! Size runs a little smaller compared to others, im size 42.5 in fizik r1 and went 43 with these

Works (sorta) for low volume feet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 45

My feet are a 45 "B" width. I did have a pair of Sidi Genius 5 (slim) and they fit great. However the version I had did not have a toe push pad (alterations I tried didn't work) and I frankly found them slippery to the point of being dangerous on road starts. Wire Carbon works for me when I include the lowest volume (blue) "Superfeet" insert. The wire synching helps the fit. In every other way the best shoes I have ever used.

4 seasons tough

Here's what my friend had to say about these shoes,
This is an interesting shoe from Sidi. It fits like a standard Sidi (subjective, but great for my foot), stiff carbon sole, and has wire enclosures. What differentiates this model is the “Vent” nature of the leather. In my opinion, this is a great shoe in climates with four seasons of riding where there is also a HOT summer (like Utah). The venting is noticeable in the heat, which means your feet swell less than other leather shoes. However, once the temperature drops, you can simple ride with a toe cap or shoe cover. The only thing I’ll point out that I don’t necessarily love is Sidi’s wire adjustment compared to the latest version of BOA. This isn’t a deal breaker per se, I just think the BOA is a bit more refined in its second version. Great shoe though, and again hard to beat the vented leather for four season riding.

Is BOA an acronym? What does it stand for?

Hey Alan that could probably be confusing since I capitalized that. Boa is actually just the system of lacing. The lacing being wires that are adjusted by the latch on the outter side of this shoe that can tighten or loosen to your preference.

Sidi -- when you expect the BEST!

I own the older version of this same shoe -- the one with the buckle top closure -- and I love the shoe. Strings are nice for perfect adjustability, but I am a slight bit nervous when it comes to touring with them over 1,000 or 2,000 miles, will the top string break, I ask? But as far as group rides, racing, and afternoon solitary rides I'm am all in for this shoe. It is stiff, but that's what you want and expect from a high-end shoe from Sidi. If I were to suggest any improvement Sidi could replace the shoe pad with a more comfortable, breathable cushion pad -- the blue is fine, but could be more comfortable. Please don't misunderstand, I love this shoe and do highly recommend it -- the quality craftsmanship of this shoe will blow you away, and the looks and glove-like fit are fabulous!

The best shoe is the one that fits. I have tried Sidi in the past and I love their designs and stiffness. For me, the fit was like most Sidi's just a little too much volume. That said, the heel cup is perfect and the Tecno-3 Push ratcheting dials were nice. The dials are no BOA and I hope Sidi minimizes them over time, since I guess no one at Sidi ever wears booties. One highlight is the replaceable heel pad and integrated toe pad/vent cover, which is added value and nice to walk in. The vented sole and the mesh upper are spot on for ventilation. If your feet run hot or if you deal with sweating issues I highly recommend giving them a try. As with all upper-end Sidi's they are stiff as nails. The Microfibre uppers are easy to clean and as you can see from the picture the craftsmanship is beautiful. The price is ridiculous, but as I said earlier the best shoe is the one that fits and if Sidi is your shoe and you need a shoe with superb ventilation this is it. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns about fit - I'm happy to help.
      For reference I wear a Specialized 42.5, Shimano 42.5, Giro 43, Adidas 42-¾, Nike 42.5, Sidi 42.5

      Really well made shoe!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I've been a DMT shoe guy for a while, but could not find a White shoe that had the Look KEO memory set screw I liked. Fortunately SIDI had a few. I ordered almost every white shoe Sidi made, and then settled on the Wire both Vent and non. After talking to the AWESOME team at Competitive I settled on the Vent, and Im happy I did. They ARE not so windy your feet are cold, the air flow is actually perfect. The construction of these shoes, WOW...just a work of art. They fit snug, but that's ok for me. I like the BOA system, but I can see why some say its complicated...because it is in a good way. I love the micro ability to loosen the shoes while riding. All and all could not be happier with shoe, and Competitive team as a whole!

      Best Shoes I've had...

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 43

I've had cheap Shimanos, pair of Sidi T2 triathlon kicks with custom lasts, Specialized S-Works, Bontrager XXX, and just purchased these a month ago.

I have a wider foot with higher arches - the toe box is perfect, not too big and not too small. The fabrics on the inside are plush and the most comfortable. They feel a bit heavier than m S-Works of a few years ago, but their revised carbon plate is much lighter than previous iterations. The lacing system is truly the best - I never really considered there to be a significant difference between ratchets and wound lacing systems, but this has the capability to be extremely fine tuned and it makes all the difference in the world. Especially with high arches.

I would recommend these to anyone and advocate that they spend the extra $200 for these over a lesser quality, "high" end shoe. It's all about the touch points.

      Best shoe ever

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 42.5

Got these shoes a second choice (due to cost) and very glad I did. They are super stiff, supportive and vented like none other. The closure is super accurate and holds you foot like a cycling shoe should. No heel lift and a very secure even tightening system make sure all your power goes into the bike.
I got a half size bigger than usual because my feet tend to swell a bit after about 50 to 75 miles of hard riding. Living in CO means lots of climbing, and these shoes seem to be made for it. I wear a 42 but got the 42.5. Sometimes they feel a little big at the start of a ride, but as the miles go on, they get more comfortable instead of squeezing my feet. These are the first shoes I have gotten that you can really snug them and not get an uncomfortable pinch or hot spot. When you are just spinning along they really feel like you are not wearing shoes at all. These shoes plus wool socks equal happy feet!

      Go one size up

I first ordered a 40 which is 6.5 in us size. I usually wear 7 us and still has room in the from toes. Sidi has great fit, but you have to get the size right.

I am 61 now, have ridden forever with great Italian shoes of all types and here is my complimentary suggestion to all: if you wear a 9 1/2 American, go 43 for this shoe. I know the size chart may suggest a 42, but that's going to run too small.
