IMBA Jacket

Sometimes it's fun to get out and play in a little rain and mud. If this is your idea of a good time too, reach for the durable waterproof and breathable hardshell IMBA jacket from Showers Pass and hit the trails in comfort. The jacket is a specific cut designed for mountain biking and is packed with features to enhance your soggy singletrack experience. As a bonus, the company is giving 5% of net proceeds of this jacket to support the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Their mission is to create, enhance, and protect great places to ride mountain bikes for the whole family.

The IMBA Jacket offers a unique combination of lightweight 2.5-layer Artex hardshell that is a waterproof, yet breathable performance fabric keeping you dry but still offers excellent ventilation. All seams are fully taped keeping any water from seeping in at bay. No detail went unnoticed and the shoulders are reinforced, protecting the fabric from the wear and tear of hydration pack straps. A soft, moisture-wicking lining on the collar is cozy and will have you feeling warm and comfortable even if it is coming down in buckets. Front hand warmer pockets give you a toasty spot to place your hands when off the bike. A chest pocket with audio port is available so you can queue up your rainy-day playlist or if you need to see when the weather front is passing through. Core zips are extra-long and easily and effectively dump heat build-up and pull tabs on all the zippers allow a sure grip in wet conditions. 360 degrees of 3M Scotchlite reflective trim and a light loop on the collar help make you visible when back to the trailhead. The adjustable hood fits easily over a helmet if it's really coming down but can be removed and stowed in an inside pocket when not needed. Keeping the waist from riding up and trail spray from getting under the jacket is a double toggle hem.

  • Ride through fog and rain in comfort in this breathable jacket
  • Regular fit tailored to an MTB ride position
  • Artex 2.5-layer hardshell is fully sealed to block rain
  • Long core vents add ventilation when you're working hard
  • Reflective accents keep you visible at dim trailheads
  • 2 hand pockets protect water-sensitive essentials

Face fabric wets out but you stay dry

I've put it through the wringer

I used this jacket for a 400 mile mountain bikepacking trip in Scotland and on the whole it did well. It fits comfortable and breathes amazingly well for a waterproof piece. I do find it strange though that face fabric seams to wet out almost instantly, even right after I washed it with a detergent meant for waterproof clothing. The water won't soak all the way through so you stay dry but it's still a bit strange. I should mention that I have had similar experiences with my Gore-tex active jacket (which is also 2.5 layer). Still having the extra breathability for a high output sport like mountain biking is worth this small trade off in my opinion.

    The Mountain Bike Jacket

I've put it through the wringer

Thank you to the folks at Showers Pass, this mountain bike specific jacket is exactly what I have been looking for. The chest vents regulate heat and the durable waterproof fabric keeps you dry. This is a mountain bike specific jacket built to last, if you ride when conditions get good, I would look no further. Let me know if you have any questions!

Sometimes, the best mountain biking takes place during that mid ride downpour. With the Showers Pass Imba jacket, conquering any trail in any condition is easy as pie. For the first ride in this jacket I found myself putting it on a little earlier than I had imagined I would, as our ride hit a dusting of snow and temperatures dropped rather quickly. Upon throwing this monster on I noticed a change in core temperature immediately, which I hadn't been able to obtain out of other shells without wearing a hoodie underneath. My second time really testing this jacket was getting caught in a rain storm that I had expected would make a presence at some point, but didn't expect it to be quite so bad. That's when what is arguably the best feature came into play, the hood. In other jackets I've had, the helmet never really fits as comfortable as you would hope for. There's always a slight tug, or it can really mess with peripheral vision. Showers Pass absolutely nailed the design here, as it's comfortable and functional. With the taped seams and zippers, not a bit of water was leaking in the entire rest of the ride. Combine that with the regular fit, and you've got quite possibly the best and most versatile rain jacket in the mountain biking discipline of our industry to date.
