Description

Why We Like The XTR PD-M9120 Pedals

Mountain biking has changed quite a bit from the days when Shimano launched its XTR group roughly three decades ago. Back then, cross-country was king and the group was created for the racing crowd who was after peak performance and low weight. Since that time, off-road cycling has segmented into different disciplines, and although racers were seeking lightweight parts to drop grams, for trail riding and enduro racing, ultimate lightness isn't always the first priority. In fact, a greater platform that offers additional support while bombing down a rocky descent, or a pedal that possesses a little more security for the clipless mechanism against rock strikes might be your jam. That's why we're excited about the XTR PD-M9120 Pedals as it packs a larger platform for better bike control that's fine-tuned to work efficiently with Shimano's ME and AM shoes, all with that famous XTR quality.

These XTR PD-M9120 Pedals have bindings that operate exactly like the XTR Race pedals in both performance and function. The main difference is that the pedal body extends fore and aft of the retention mechanism as a lightweight cage to better support the sole of your shoe. Otherwise, they're still super light, and shed mud better than ever before.

  • The XTR trail pedal with larger contact points for better support
  • Designed to work efficiently with Shimano ME and AM shoes
  • The integrated platform adds stability and protects the binding
  • Compatible with SH51 cleats (provided) and SH56

Not worth the money

Fit:
True to size

The seals continuously pop out every ride. This started shortly after I purchased them. After a few thousand miles they eventually started making noise when pedaling like the bearings were dry. Tried to regrease them but it only helped for a few rides.

Great pedal

I like this pedal a lot, the platform is great taking your foot on and off and keeping pace. I've had a few similar pedals and these are definitely worth the money!

I've used this brand forever and they just work. My wife has a hard time bailing out(un clipping) so I plan to file her shoes as I have no problem ejecting. -j-

It ok... their stuff from the early 2k was better quality...

Solid Platform Clipless Setup

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The large platform is great for aggressive trail and enduro riding. The SPD system is tried and true, and is a no brainer option for someone looking for a light but durable pedal setup! These pedals don't have any pegs despite being a larger platform-style clipless pedal, so if you're looking for decent foot retention while not clipped in, these may not be the best pedal for you.

Bad seals

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The pedals are great, seals not so much. I had the rubber seals pop out on the second ride out of the box. After pushing them back in on every ride and it getting very old Shimano replaced the spindle assemblies under warranty. The new assemblies lasted a ride or two before the seals came out. Shimano is now warranting the entire pedal set. A mechanic at my local LBS had the exact same issues as well.

I’ve had the same issue. What’s worse is these pedals had the same well known issue in their previous rendition and Shimano has done nothing to fix the issue

I had this happen as well but they still function fine after a lot of all season use, I ride everyday

same issues with the seals. Killed the bearings in one after a couple hundred miles. Bought a new set. same problem with the seals.

Same issue with the XTR M9100 (race) and M9120 (trail). I am getting a 6th pair directly from Shimano. The first five pairs failed each after one ride. Fingers crossed for pair #6...

Durable, light, and they perform well. Not much else to say about the best of the best when it comes to pedals.
