Description

Stay frosty.

Functionally, XT SM-RT86 Disc Brake Rotors stop equally in comparison to Shimano's apex XTR line. That's because of IceTech, a shared technology on both models. The difference between the two lies in a slightly lighter XTR spider that's reserved for gram-obsessed racers. Weight difference aside, the XT rotors provide the same cooling benefits to help your brakes stay frosty and on point when you're testing the ragged edge for extended periods of time.

In reality, most of us aren’t going to feel the benefits of a few grams lost when they're so centrally located to the hub. However, what we are going to profit from is the three-piece Ice Tech Rotor. It is essentially two pieces of steel optimized for friction sandwiched over an aluminum core.

This means Shimano is utilizing the high thermal conductivity of aluminum, where other manufacturers solely use steel throughout the braking surface. Additionally, the quicker cooling alloy core more efficiently transfers heat to the alloy spider. The resulting cooler operating brakes will last longer and provide more consistent stopping in the most trying conditions.

  • A workhorse brake rotor for XC, trail, and all-mountain use
  • IceTech steel/aluminum sandwich dissipates heat
  • Aluminum spider further contributes to heat management

The Only Rotor I Need

These are great rotors. Stop well, stay cool, and pair perfectly with XT and XTR brakes. Been running these on my bikes for the past 4 years. Very happy with shimano brakes overall.

    Great Rotors

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought these rotors to replace the front rotors on me trike. I am 230 lb and the trike is about 45 lb. On a down hill run over 20 MPH It takes a lot of braking power. These the rotors get the job done with out a problem.

    Awesome Rotors

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Awesome design that is very stiff, quiet and quite light. Can't go wrong with these.

    Complementary

These are a great complement to XT brakes. Their Ice Tech construction readily dissipates heat and staves off brake fade on long descents.

Brakes they got to feel good

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's the best feeling to have new rotors and pads. Smooth, firm, quiet braking.

      Outstanding!!!!

These rotors are outstanding. I put these on my 2017 Giant Trance 2 and they work great. Incredible stopping power. I have not felt any brake fade with these rotors. You can not beat the price of them either. You can buy two of them from Back country for the price of one at a local bike shop. Very pleased with my purchase.

        Shimano Breaks are awesome

Shimano is the industry leader in this category. Works perfect every time.

          Brakes just slow you down

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

so you might as well have an inexpensive but well working rotors to help out of those OOC situations

          Brakes are good, m'kay

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you want your bike to stop, buy Shimano brakes.

          Braking Power

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love these rotors! They last a long time and work great! Finally had to buy a replacement for my older 2014 bike, so 3 years of abuse seems pretty decent for someone who probably uses her brakes too much! Good price for the quality as well!

          Why are there other rotors?

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rotor is great. Maybe not quite as fancy as XTR, but also a good bit cheaper. And the heat dissipation is still pretty dang good. I've used a ton of these on my different bikes over the years

          Pretty excited

I bought these to put on a new build for a Yeti SB6 and am excited for the upgrade from the build of my old SC Bronson. It is the middle of winter here in Park City so it will be a while before I get to reap the benefits of the upgraded build on a new bike, but im excited to get out there soon!

            Great Power to Coolness Ratio

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cools well without sacrificing braking power.

            Great upgrade

If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive upgrade to your cherished ride, look no further. These rotors are an easy self-installation project and you will immediately notice increased stopping power.

              IceTech IS Worth it!

              • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Hard to beat Shimano brakes on the MTB. Was having problems with the non-IceTech rotors on some of the long descents in Pisgah loosing stopping power and feeling mushy. Simply changing to IceTech rotors fixed my issues instantly. Can't beat that!

              Stay calm by staying cool

              • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Want your brakes to work even when you're over working them? Get these. The Ice tech rotors cool faster for better continuous performance. Want more power? Get the larger rotors. I've been running these on different bikes for many years and still can't find a complaint.
