ShimanoXT SL-M8000 RapidFire Trigger Shifter

XT SL-M8000 RapidFire Trigger Shifter
Shimano shows that it's earned its reputation for generous trickle-down by taking a big chunk of technology from XTR and dropping it into the 11-speed XT drivetrain. Components like the XT SL-M8000 RapidFire Trigger Shifter goes nearly toe-to-toe with its older brother but with a more wallet-friendly price. Despite the turn towards economy, the M8000 Shifter still commands precise gear shifts that will deliver you smoothly through the most harrowing terrain.
Shimano designed the M8000 to shepherd the XT line into the modern age of 11-speed design. It's got a longer lever body to provide riders with more space to aim for when shifting and requires less force to engage the shifting mechanism. An anti-slip surface on the main lever improves dexterity while lessening the likelihood of slipped fingers when making crucial shifts on hot summer days. These features, combined with a new shift cable covered in a low-friction coating, lead to a claimed 20% reduction in force required for gear shifts, which translates to less hand fatigue and more hours out on the trail.
To make things even better, the M8000 features two-way release shifting permitting you to shift the upper lever with either your thumb or index finger depending on where your hands are on the bars. Multi-release functionality lets you shift through multiple gears with a single lever sweep to quickly adjust to drastic changes in trail grade, and the instant release design helps to ensure you get the gear you want as soon as you throw the lever.
- Trickle-down trail performance with Shimano shifting tech
- Runs through multiple gears with a single lever throw
- 20% reduction in force required to initiate a shift
- Drops into a lower gear almost instantaneously
- Anti-slip surface reduces miss-shifts and plain misses

8000 has to be the best drivetrain Shimano makes. Price is right, quality is unmatched, the finish is exceptional. Easy to install and set up, clutch mechanism has come a long way since the first generation and performs flawlessly.

Would these work with Ultegra 6800 front/rear 11-speed derailleur? I am building a flat bar road and wonder if this would work.

Nice shifter great value
Nice shifter for the money and great quality for the price. Much cheaper than XTR with similar performance. Come with shift indicator and cover to delete. Highly recommend if running Shimano 11spd!

Great Shifter!

I think that the XT groupset is one of the best you can buy at this point. They are fairly light, very reliable, and will last forever. Not to mention, it's super affordable! Easy to install and also really easy to maintain. Might not be the ultra light race set up you want, but is just flat out reliable.

Great Balance

Great balance of price and performance. I love all the shimano XT stuff I have used. Almost a nice as XTR, but much more affordable. Obviously if you're going for the all-out build of a lifetime you have to send it and go XTR for that extra bling. XT though is light enough for just about anything, and lasts seemingly forever. While XTR is nice, but not necessary, I do think you get a lot of benefit shelling out for the XT instead of the lower end shimano stuff. A little more money up front, but less broken bits means more fun and less repair bills throughout the summer.

Have used this product for the past year and it's stood up to a couple crashes!!! Simple and easy to remove the gear display. Crisp and percise shifting. Really love the bigger textured thumb lever and textured trigger lever too.

Great Shimano Product

I got this to set up a 1 x 11 on my Surly Krampus and has worked better than the stock part that came with the bike. One thing I really like is that it is a lot harder to accidentally shift if you are reaching into a backpack while biking. Sometimes I would bump my shifter and it would change gears on my old set up but with the new one the triggers are more stiff.

You only need one shifter these days.

The XT group is the best value on the market. I found the lever throw to be a little stiff but the performance is great and never missed a shift. Durability has been awesome and haven't needed to replace the cable yet. Shifting is still great.

Style and Quality (and performance)

Without forking out a pretty penny for XTR, XT is a killer choice for a drivetrain. Smooth as butter and built tough.

Best 1x11 Performance and Value

I don't think you will find a better performing 11 speed shifter for the price. Still don't know why they include a gear indicator, at least it comes with an alternate cap so you can remove.

This went on my SB6 I built up. It rounds out the XT group and does it's job with aplomb. Definitely recommended

1 x 11 Upgrade
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Let me start off by saying the functionality of this shift is superb. I just changed out my 1 x 10 42t to the 1 x 11 using the 46t cassette and it works great. The only knock I have on it is the shifter indicator. In the past you could remove the indicator and it came with a cap to cover the opening. On this model Shimano does not include the cap with the shifter. I had to purchase one separately? I really don't care whether or not the indicator is there, but it "crowds" the room needed if you have a dropper post or fork lock out located on your bars. Actual functionality of the shifter is awesome!

Smooth!
This will be my first time on Shimano Shifters, for a custom build on an SB6. Its the middle of winter so I haven't gotten to use them much at all but so far, it was a nice change from SRAM build on my old Bronson.

Yes. It doesn’t mount to my existing brake lever like my current set up. Seems that shimano keeps changing the standard down mounting of the shifters. Really upset about this and sending the whole M8000 Group I purchased back because of this.
