Why We Like The XT PD-M8120 Pedals

Shimano's venerable XT group sees updates from year to year, as advancements from the XTR group trickle down to the sweet spot of cost and performance. Shimano's revised trail racing pedals feature a wider platform to carry you across undulating trails.Four degrees of float, two-sided entry, bombproof durability of the body and sealed cartridge bearings, and simple, muck-clearing cleat-to-pedal interface — all the features that recommend Shimano's SPDs as the default do-it-all pedals are still present.

As with the previous model, the M8120 is slightly heavier and more substantial than the XC race version, but the trade-off is a wider, more stable platform for confident responsiveness whether you're dropping your own hammer or clearing techy rock shelves on a climb with jerks and hops. They've also got a bit more survivability in the event of a pedal strike.

Great Pedals for a Tandem

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
Standard

I've been using Campy Record Pro-Fit pedals for decades, but finally got tired of replacing plastic cleats, only being able to enter the pedals from one side, and no longer being able to find replacement parts. I modernized by getting these pedals. They provide a solid platform for all kinds of pedaling (long uphills, standing on the pedals, etc.). They are easy to enter and release. Matched with Sidi shoes, they are perfect.

Axle play

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

After one season of use, these pedals have developed play at the axle on both. Unfortunately, these haven't lived up to the reputation of Shimano pedals being bombproof. Warrantying them directly thru Shimano. Hopefully, the warranty goes without issue. Disappointed to say the least!

The best shimano pedals

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

If you want a set of clip less pedals that just work, these are for you. I’ve used shimano pedals for many years. They can be smashed off countless rocks, roots, and anything else. Service is simple. I believe these are a better option than XTR. They are only slightly heavier, more durable, and notably cheaper.

Solid pedals!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Bought these pedals after wanting a bigger platform for those moments when you unclip and still want some leverage, and also to reduce foot numbness. I had switched over to Crank Bros. pedals but didn't like the clip in/clip out feel with that brand. Happy to return to SPDs and love the feel of these!
