Stop it real good.
For years, the Shimano XT group has lived in the very long shadow of its flashy older brother, XTR. This year, XT steps out of the shadows with a new look to go toe-to-toe with its more expensive sibling. Now featuring an 11-speed cassette and borrowing a heap of technology from XTR, the new group delivers high-end functionality at a more budget-friendly price point. The XT M8000 Brakeset is an integral piece of the puzzle, sitting at attention by the wheels, ready to jump into action and scrub speed the second you pull on the brake levers.
The calipers feature 22mm ceramic pistons for awesome stopping power and modulation feel, and the banjo fittings make for secure hose attachment that accommodates different hose approach angles. Servo Wave technology reduces the amount of lever travel needed to initiate engagement for a braking experience that meets each individual's speed-scrubbing preferences. Nestled neatly in place on the caliper, Shimano Radiator Pads include integrated fins that work to dissipate heat and lower the risk of brake fade during long descents and other brake-heavy sections of trail.
The Shimano XT M8000 Brakeset comes complete with a pair of XT SM-RT86 Rotors, which feature an aluminum core sandwiched between the steel braking surfaces to create a perfect blend of steel's optimal braking friction and aluminum's heat-dissipating properties. Descriptively dubbed Ice Tech, this rotor design facilitates faster cooling and consistent braking power compared to standard all-steel rotors to keep you bombing down the trail with confidence that you'll be able to drop speed when you need to.
