Description

Pedal Down.

The Shimano Ultegra PD-R8000 Pedals borrows heavily from the flagship Dura-Ace PD-9100 to deliver pro-level performance for the weight-conscious cycling enthusiast. The extra-wide, lightweight, carbon composite platform offers a huge target for clipping in, so rolling away from red lights and the start of a crit are hassle-free affairs. The large body also provides more efficient power transfer and distributes pressure better so long days in the saddle aren't met with hot spots on your feet. The low profile design increases road clearance for improved confidence when leaning through the turns and getting back on the gas.

Durable, integrated, stainless steel body plates help reduce flex, wear to the pedal body, and provide a smooth surface for the cleats, promoting smooth float. The wide bearing placement offers stable and uniform load distribution so bearings last longer and roll smoother. The adjustable entry and release tension let you customize the settings for a casual easy in-and-out to a vice like grab needed for track racers or sprinters.

The 10 mm body height from the axle center to cleat contact surface lowers the stack height 0.7mm versus the 6800's and the weight has dropped to 248 grams. Pedals includes 6-degree float SPD-SL cleats for 3-bolt shoes and all the mounting hardware.

  • High-quality pedals for road adventures
  • Wide carbon body offers stable support
  • Steel body plate for durability
  • SPD-SL cleat for 3-hole shoes
  • Adjustable entry and release tension

Likely wrong type of cleat for short run

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought these clips for my new road bike since that was what was recommended and this are road shoes. I am used to the SPDs (2-bolt) so getting in and out of these is still very frustrating if I am on a trip that requires constant starting and stopping. Once I am in, I can see why they are recommended and for long trips where I ride for hours, that's what I'll use. But for commuting, the SPDs are vastly superior getting out and in. They are more forgiving.

Love These Pedals!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these pedals after destroying my Speedplays. These pedals are super durable and easy to clip into.

Love it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Smooth fit, easy clip-in - good foot support. Couldn't be better, so glad I chose this model (after 2 other tries).

For those new to clipless pedals:
--Be sure to take the time for a good set-up to save your ankles & knees. Get an experienced friend/shop to help. Took about 20min and well worth it to align pedal stroke & cleats.
--It's always easiest to clip in when moving. So if need to stop, keep that one foot clipped and start pedaling. Remember, you can pull up on that foot since it is secured to keep the bike in motion. The second foot will clip in naturally (start at 12:00 and on the down stroke - around 9:00 - it will secure).

Unanswered Question

Does this affect saddle height or any other aspect of fit with the lower stack height?

shimano pedals R8000

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After 45 years of toe clip and straps and Detto Pietro shoes, I bought my first pair of clipless pedals (and of course the shoes and cleats to go with them). The pedals are excellent - a nice feature is that getting your cleated shoe onto the second pedal is easy IF you bring the pedal up to the 12 o'clock position using your already-attached first shoe (here is the key) without hitting it with your shoe. The pedal at 12 o'clock with have the attachment site up for easy connection to your cleated shoe. The reason i gave the pedals 4 stars is because you need a 2.5 mm hex wrench to adjust the tension but the wrench is not included either with the pedals or the cleats - Shimano should be ashamed.

What the world needs now

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If fourteen other positive reviews can't convince you to buy these pedals, than I doubt this one will either. I ride my bike on the road and go real fast. Without pedals I would go slower. You need pedals on your bike or you will never win.

What's to say, their pedals

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had zero issues with these pedals. Inadvertently scraped them on the pavement a few times while cornering with no apparent issues

Ultegra always prime

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pedal are top of the top. Shimano ultegra product are reliable and lasts forever.

Very Satisfied

Replaced Speedplay Zero pedals - been using 3 years. There is a night and day difference with the the Ultegra pedals. Wish I had bought the Ultegra from the start --- very east to clip in and out.

    If Only...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are an upgrade from my SPD pair and if only I had upgraded earlier I'd have this appreciation for road cycling sooner. The pedal to cleat contact is secure and power transfer with triangle pedal system is remarkably smoother and noticeable. If only the damn things hung right side down instead of up clicking in would have been less of a hazard. Otherwise a sold product.

    Secure

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Swapped out my broken Speedplays for these. They are way more secure and the pedal to cleat contact area feels great.

    Nice set of Pedals

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Nice set of pedals for a great price. Works extremely well on my new bike purchased. Recommended.

    Sweet click in.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As a first time road bike rider I was little scared of clipping in to my bike. I asked around and everyone said these were the pedals to get. I practiced on a trainer for the first few days clipping in and out until I felt comfortable on the bike. These peddles are great and can take a beating. I wiped out on my BikeMS ride and they came out with just a couple of scratches and still look great. I can't believe I didn't clip in sooner.

    PD trumps the SPD

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

For the last couple years I stuck with the Shimano SPD pedals that came with my German road bike. I feel like a moron for not changing these out earlier. The R8000's transfer the power much better with the larger base. It also makes for a much more comfortable ride. You can change the tension of how tight you want to be locked in as well. I've purchased these pedals for my trainer bike and road racer. Very satisfied and priced right!

    Nice upgrade

I was riding an older set of 105 pedals, these pedals are much lighter. The platform is nice and wide, the cleats are durable, and the price was great.

      Great price and service

Order came in on time and pedals work great .....competitive cyclist has great price and service...... looking forward to my next order with them

Noticeably lighter, it's a tight pedal

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I hope this loosens up with time, it's REALLY tight clipping in and out right now though! I love how light it is, it's nearly as light as Shimano's most expensive pedal but much cheaper. It feels like a really good-quality pedal.

You should be able to adjust the entry and release tension. It's usually an easy adjustment with a small hex wrench.
