DI2 is incredible. I have ridden every kind of component in mechanical form and now switching to electronic shifting I am blown away. The shifting is crisp, clean, and reliable. My favorite part is once set up, maintenance is next to none. The auto trim feature on the front derailleur is perfect so you can just focus on pedaling and enjoying the view.

I still run 2x
- I've used it several times
Front mechs have always been finicky and the point of failure when you attack into a climb. I know; once in a race I did just this, wanted to shift up into the big ring after the climb was over and dropped my chain and dropped by the group. Ughh. I did this with a mechanical front derailleur, I'm now using this electric one and the front chainring shifts are reliable. YES! This derailleur also auto trims, making the front chainring shifts as mindless as the cassette shifts in the rear. This derailleur is not much different than the 6870 one, but it matches nicely with the new 8000 components. Please let me know if you run into any questions. email@example.com

Thanks much for your experience review. What I wanted/hoped to hear. Tired of fighting the cable derailer, occasional chain jumps, and slow/delayed shifting on the cassette. Looking forward to a big difference.

I was thinking of upgrading my Ultagra Di2 6870 short cage rear derailleur to the new 8050 long cage (bigger gear range). My question is whether I need the new 8050 Di2 front derailleur to take advantage of the synchro shifting the new Di2 offers? I would also be purchasing the 8050 Ultegra shifters. Just wondering if I would need to upgrade both derailleurs?
