Shimano's stoppers have always proven to be some of the smoothest and most powerful in the business, and the new Ultegra 6800 Brake Calipers continue to represent these qualities in full effect. The new brakes were completely redesigned, borrowing the same new pivoting mechanism as Dura-Ace 9000 to provide you with incredibly consistent power distribution at the rim surface.

As with the conception of Dura-Ace BR-9000 Brake Calipers, Shimano started from the ground up when designing its new Ultegra 6800 brakes. Shimano used its new 'true' dual-pivot design, which deviates from the Shimano legacy of the mounting bolt doubling as a second pivot. Instead, 6800 has a rear-mounting plate with a center bolt for frame attachment. The brake arms now reside symmetrically over the wheel, and work independent of the mounting plate because of an integrated rolling cam. Shimano kept the cable stop off to the side, but with the new dual-pivot design, any cable pull applies an equal tension to both arms. Taking a step even further, the arms operate on a twin bearing system that drastically reduces pivot friction, and thus makes brake application from the levers a light, predictable, and powerful experience. In fact, Shimano makes the claim that BR-6800 has 10% more power in the caliper than their 6700 counterparts.

The arm placement is now closer to the rim, which, when coupled with an equal pull on each side of the rim, drastically increases modulation. Actuation from the levers is lighter than ever, and with Shimano's new low-friction, polymer-coated cables, you can expect a braking experience unlike anything Shimano has offered before. And for all of you running larger tires, Shimano will also be producing a thinner brake pad option to accommodate up to 28mm tires.

Lighter operation, smoother modulation, and an aesthetic design that's unmistakably Shimano, the BR-6800 is as good as it gets. The Shimano Ultegra 6800 Brake Calipers are available in one size and one color. The calipers are only available as a pair and are recommended for use with the Shimano ST-6800 STI Levers.

These make me go slower

I frequently use them to slow down. But even then, they make me look faster. Great upgrade from Tektro or other down spec brakes that come standard on some bike builds. At 225 lbs and riding canyon roads, this is not where I skimp. Dual pivot design very smooth; hard to do better with rim brakes.

Quality at an affordable price

Shimano's Ultegra brakes are a great value. Are Dura Ace better? Probably. Do they cost way, way more? Yep. So if you want a solid brake with a nice clean, but plain finish, at a more affordable price go Ultegra. Did I mention they work really really well. Solid stoping power for all but the most extreme situations. I am running Michelin 25cm Pro4's and find they just fit. If your looking to use 28cm you will want to check before buying. I would also like to mention CC's customer service is second to none. Keep up the great work.

A Must Upgrade for your Bike!

Got these breaks on sale which was an incredible steal! Replaced an old pair of breaks on my girlfriend's bike with this pair, and they instantly gave her the confidence and comfort to ride harder and faster.

Also really easy to install yourself at home!

THESE BRAKES COME AS A PAIR

    We get this question all the time so I want to post it here for some clarity. These brakes come as a pair!!!!!! Front and rear brake including!!!

    is this one caliper or two? The title says "calipers"

    Good brakes

    Stopping: Compared to what I had before, these brakes do inspire confidence in their stopping power. The brake track of your wheels do have considerable importance here, as do the pads, but the calipers themselves are trustworthy. Works with at least up to 25mm tires.

    Install: I like the fact that they are very adjustable and easy to install. The barrel adjuster is ergonomic and makes setting the width easy. If anything is off-center, there's a screw to deal with that as well. The pads are also easily adjusted.

    I have a 2013 caad10 5 with a 105 groupset but for some reason it came with tektro R580 brakes. will these fit my bike? I'm runnin 25mm conti gp4000s on it now.

    These should fit your bike without difficulty. You could potentially need to adjust your brake cables and housing, but I genuinely have no clue there.

    There are a lot of component upgrades that are hardly noticeable but to replace even the 6700 brakes with these 6800 ones is very noticeable and worth it. I have these on two bikes andI definitely recommend them.

    These are some solid, reliable brakes. Easy to install and have performed flawlessly now for about 1,500 miles. Can't think of anything negative to say. They are what they are - great brakes, great weight at a great price point.

    These brakes are pretty amazing for the money.
    Better stopping power than pretty much anything else on the market.
    Quality and Durability are top notch.

    They may not feature the words "Dura-Ace" emblazoned upon them but they will do the same job at a fraction of the price.
    But, they do not say Dura Ace, and they are not shiny, and they do not send the message to everyone in your group that you spared no expense when building your bike, I suppose that is their only downfall.
    Photo below of Shimano's user manual for rim width recommendations. I have run wider rims without issue, 21mm. Which is against Shimano's recommendations, and tires up to 28mm.

    Like the rest of the Ultegra name, the 6800 calipers are a fantastic option for the price. Brake performance is good enough to shave seconds off those Strava times as you take descents faster with increased confidence in your brakes.

    The looks are nothing to scoff at either; something sure to appeal to vain cyclist in everyone.

    Outstanding performance

      These brake calipers are an excellent upgrade if going with Shimano. Baby bro of Dura Ace, yes please. Other than the beauty of it... i have gained much more confidence while descending and just riding all around. Setting the correct tension and feel of the calipers is easy. What can I say, you can't go wrong with Shimano Ultegra 6800.

      Increased stopping power and clearance. You cant go wrong with these brakes. I ride a lot of canyons and these have more then enough braking power when screaming on the descent. The give me the extra confident I need to take the corners a little faster.

      I'm not one who shy away from spending money on quality bike components, but I try to do so wisely. Here's a great place to save money by NOT going top shelf. All the stopping power and good looks of Dura Ace without the price tag. Damn near the same weight too.

        yes, i have a mix of 105 and ultegra 5700, 5800, 6700 and 6800 on two bikes and it all plays well together.

        Shimano's official technical answer is "no". They state that the leverage ratio and mechanism on the X800 levers is required to actuate the new dual pivot brakesets like the 6800. There is a suggestion that braking might worsen if you were to upgrade just the caliper. Most reports I have read from people who have tried say that calipers work great with their x700 series levers and the performance is much improved. I upgraded my whole drivetrain, levers, brakeset to 6800 at a healthy discount and feel that was a smart buy.

        At only 40 grams more than their Dura Ace brothers and providing (in my opinion) equal performance, the Ultegra 6800 calipers are a definite win! It actually took me a few rides to get used to the increased stopping power over my previous brake setup, which shall remain nameless.... but costs twice as much. Accurate, predictable braking, very low maintenance. Surprisingly easy to work on when a tweak here or there is needed.
