Add a touch of carbon to your ride.
The Shimano SH-RP5 Men's Cycling Shoes feature a carbon plate within a reinforced nylon sole to up the stiffness factor compared to its RP3 and RP2 siblings. Their outsole stiffness rating of seven out of 12 places the SH-RP5s solidly in the middle of comfort and competition, marking this as a versatile shoe that's appropriate for a wide range of cycling ventures. Compatible with two-bolt and three-bolt cleats, these shoes match with a wide range of pedal types — including most spin bike pedals.
The SH-RP5's closure system consists of a middle hook-and-loop strap that passes through a mid-foot D-ring for exceptional stability and adjustability while minimizing tension across the foot. An additional hook-and-loop strap crosses the forefoot, and a ratchet strap fastens across the top of the shoe for a customized fit and even pressure distribution. A surround upper pattern provides additional comfort and completes these shoes' streamlined look.

Remarkable for the price
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 47
I have been an spd rider eversince there was spd. Obvious I like it. But the shoes were always a problem. Every RS model I've purchased over the years were heavy, uncomfortable, and didn't last.
But these are amazingly comfortable, the fit is perfect for a person with slightly wider feet . the ratcheting system is new and lighter, firm er and better. They are very light and stiff given the carbon fiber plate. I've got 700 miles on them and no hot spots, the ventilation system works. I love these shoes. Seriously, even at list price they're worth every penny.
Strange color and decent feel
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs small
I thought these would be black, but they were actually somewhere on the grey scale from a (white) 6-9 (black) rating and seemingly a few random splotches of lighter grey and asymmetric between the two shoes. Not a big deal to me personally, but watch out if it is to you!
Runs maybe 1/2 a size small or so. Have not biked much in them at all yet, because its the heart of winter in SLC, UT but I am super excited about these shoes for some riding in the next couple of months as they feel comfy, stiff and I like the closure system design on these.
