Shimano goes Boa.

Last year's road shoes are looking a little gray and frazzled, so you're making the jump onto the streamlined boa train with Shimano's SH-RC7 Men's Cycling Shoes. Falling into Shimano's Road Performance category, the SH-RC7's are meant for speed with a claimed 245-gram weight that sits just two grams higher than the category topping SH-RC9 for a size 42. With a stiff carbon sole and comfortable upper, these shoes strike a balance between race-day aggression and training utility at a cost that pales in comparison to many similarly spec'd options.

Shimano fashions the SH-RC7s from perforated synthetic leather, chosen for both is lightweight comfort as well as its ability to usher cooling air throughout the shoe. Each shoe fastens with a micro-adjustable Boa IP1 reel across the top, with wide anchor points evenly distributing pressure. A hook-and-loop strap spans the forefoot for additional adjustability and customization of fit. Underfoot, a stiff carbon fiber composite sole facilitates efficient power transfer with a high stiffness rating of 10/12 on Shimano's scale, which means you don't have to worry about wasted watts or fatiguing sole flex.

  • A race-bred road shoe with long-mile comfort
  • Carbon fiber composite sole is light and efficient
  • Breathable synthetic uppers for comfortable security
  • Boa IP1 closure with forefoot strap for a dialed fit
  • Compatible with three-bolt road cleats

i want to like but just not great

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 44

the sizing is not good, i should have got two pairs but i didn't, normally wear a 9.5 which should work but they size big, having that said not sure how the 43.5 would fit. the biggest problem with these is they get scuffed too easily, i have tires marks and they look like i have had them for years.... other things i noticed is they come up high and i get cut on my right ankle bone.....

First Wear... first hole

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Well, they're comfortable and fit true to size. I also really like the boa lacing system. That being said, I had a "failed click in" and it resulted in a hole being torn in the uppers material. I like them, but yea, they're definitely not the most durable shoes

First Wear... first hole

Great Bang for the Buck in a road shoe

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Tried some more expensive shoes, but came back to these. Shimano shoes just seem to fit my feet well. Seem true to size with ample room in the toe box (more than most shoes). The available wide version must be for some really wide feet.
Quality shoe, Boa is a big plus, does a great job snugging foot (but possibly not quite as customized as a two boa system). The velcro strap at front of shoe is "set it and forget it"...unless perhaps you alter the thickness of socks. Boa works great, easily tightens or loosens on the fly. These shoes are very easy to put on and take off. I consider them to be a great value...and a Great shoe. I have a high arches, and swapped to the Specialized SL+++ footbed.
Only negatives...
- surface pattern scuffs very easily if to make contact with tire or crank arm.
- not the most stylish shoe on the block

Very Satisfied...

  • Fit: True to size

Bought these shoes to replace 2 old pairs of Specialized Carbon's, size 43, which I purchased some years ago. I ordered the 43's in the RC7's and they fit perfectly (I wear a size 9 US.)
Got them dialed in on my indoor trainer, and put 25 miles on the road today.
I have high arches and the insoles that came with the shoes did not provide enough support. After switching a new size 43 Green Specialized insole in the RC7, they were super comfortable and look fantastic. I highly recommend.

New shoes, who dis?

These are the best shoes I've owed. The only reason they don't get a five is that the sizing suggestion seems to be off. I wear a US 12 and all my other cycling shoes have been an EU 46. According to Shimano's sizing, I should be in a 47. They say their 46 is an 11.2. Not so. The 46 fits me perfectly. These are light and supremely comfortable. The wire/dial Boa system allows me to fit them prefectly every time.

    New shoes, who dis?

    You can't have it all

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large

I just got a pair and have used them for about 5 rides and I have to say Shimano has stepped up their game in shoes. I have a pair or Sidi's, Fizik's and Specialized shoes and these are more comfortable as well as stiffer. They do run a little big, but I love how they are a bit wider than my Sidi's and Fizik's giving me no discomfort. The only reason I won't give them a 5 star rating is the fact they are very easy to get scratched. I had bit of a wheel rub at the tip of the shoe as well as a quick rub with the crack and the black lines easily scratch. Can't have it all but they are a nice looking as well as nice performing shoe.

I totally agree on the sizing. They were 1 size too big compared to my Specialized Road Shoes!

same problem, some tire rub and the shoe is now down to the bare shimano. at least make them in black.
