Why We Like The ME702 Wide Cycling Shoe

For the wide-footed enduro rider, Shimano's ME702 Wide Cycling shoe brings all-day comfort and performance to your all-mountain pursuits. The synthetic upper of the ME702 buckles down for a comfortable, secure fit, without sacrificing much to more performance-focused dials closures. And the speed laces tuck nicely under the top cover. A Michelin rubber sole provides traction for footing in the berms and stiffness for the accelerations.

A reinforced heel stabilizer holds your feet in place to ensure you don't lose any power on challenging ascents, while the carbon midsole keeps things responsive and lightweight. And made on Shimano's Volume+ last, the ME702 offers a bit more wiggle room in the toe box for comfort on bashy root and rock gardens.

Narrow ski feet only

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Definitely not a shoe for anyone with wide feet as others have indicated. Advertising as 'wide' is grossly FALSE and misleading. Would probably be good shoe with anyone having a narrow foot and only used in cool, wet climates as the rubber upper doesn't have a lot of ventilation.

Not for high instep

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I actually like these shoes. Surprising that they are wide enough. I usually cannot get my high instep into this style of shoe, but in this case, that was no problem either. The problem here is the strap that tightens the top part of the foot is too short. I can’t get it into the latch. This is really strange in that they seem to have made these shoes for a high instep, but then cut the strap too short. It is very close - just touching the latch - but about 1/2” too short for my foot.

Decent shoe if they were actually wide

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I wanted to like these, but as others have said, these are not much wider than the standard width. Going back to Lake’s who actually make two widths.

There aren’t WIDE in the toe box at all.

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

Hard pass on these because they’re too narrow in the toe box, even though I ordered the wide version which they are. I have a wide foot but it’s not as wide compared to others. The shoes construction looks solid and well built, but if they don’t fit all of the technicals are meaningless to me. I usually wear a size 45 in Shimano shoes which is equivalent to a US 10.5 and these are no different, sizing is dead on. I thought these would be a upgrade compared to my Shimano AM5’s which do fit and offer a more roomy toe box and they aren’t even spec “wide”. My flat pedal shoes I ride in are Shimano GR5’s which is basically the cousin of the AM5’s. I tried the GR7’s stay away from them if you have a wide foot they won’t fit you. I was putting off getting a pair of Lakes but this is the confirmation I needed to do so. If you have a wide foot don’t buy these.

Advertised as wide but they are maybe only a little wider than standard medium width
