Why We Like The AM503 Cycling Shoe

Built for downhill charging in comfort and style the Shimano AM503 Cycling Shoe is made with robust materials and a sticky sole to keep us rubber side down. The all-mountain shoe is up for taking a beating with durable synthetic leather material and a protective hook-and-loop closure. Shimano adds bash guards to the toe area, keeping our feet nice and tucked away on those gnarly descents.

Sizing

I typically wear an 11 in most shoes. I bought the 45.0 and 46.0 and ended up with the 45.0. Toes are pretty close to the end of the shoe, but the 46.0's had an extra 3/4" inch of space in the toe. One ride so far and I didn't notice any toe pressure/contact at the end since it's a clipless setup. If you plan to do lots of hike-a-biking or wear heavy socks for winter riding, the larger size may be the better option. FWIW - I'm coming from a Giro chamber II size EU45 US11 (excellent shoe that still looks almost new after 3 full years of riding). The Giro has a stiffer sole overall from toe to heel, whereas the AM5's sole is stiff in the toe-forefoot half and a bit more forgiving in the rear. The AM5 has a noticeably less bulky look. It also has more front to rear cleat adjustability, but the Giro's was completely sufficient as well.
