Why We Like The PD-EH500 Pedals

The Shimano PD-EH500 Pedals are dual-sided pedals that have an SPD clip-in mechanism on one side, and a platform with traction pins on the other. This gives you the freedom to ride either clipped-in or on flats, without needing to change your pedals back and forth. They work well for urban riding, road touring, or light-duty trail riding, and and feature a light action that makes frequent stepping in and out much easier. In addition, they include a set of SH56 multi-release cleats, which further simplifies unclipping by allowing you to move your heel in multiple directions to release, rather than only being able to unclip by kicking your heel outwards horizontally.

Great transition to riding clipless

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Solid pedals, compact and metal. These are a nice upgrade from stock plastic pedals. Also a great transition to riding clipless. Note that as I found out there are two different styles of cleats that screw into your cycling shoes to enable riding on clipless pedals. This pedal has the two screw mount and is for MTB shoes, generally speaking. Road shoes use the three cleat system and use a different mechanism to engage the shoe and clip into the pedal. So if you are using road shoes with the three screw cleats you need to get the other style of Shimano pedal. Highly recommend if you have MTB shoes and want the option of riding with regular shoes or cycling shoes without changing pedals.
