Add those shifters.
With the introduction of the Dura-Ace Di2 9070, the door was fully opened for secondary shifter options. In addition to their standard ST-9070 shifters, many riders are now opting for supplemental shifting positions to reflect the race course for the given day. It's an option many Shimano-sponsored riders are taking advantage of -- strategically placing advanced electronic shifting technology literally at their fingertips.
In the Spring Classics this year we saw many riders running Shimano's top mounted shifters, as hands are often positioned up high on the bars for increased control over the demanding road surfaces. Similarly, sprint-specialists who spend most of their time down in the drops of their bars will request that mechanics add Shimano's slick sprint shifters to their cockpits on flat race stages.
Due to the myriad of shifting options that have presented themselves with Shimano's new Di2 group, the Japanese engineers created its new E-Tube Cockpit Junction Box to handle additional componentry. The small junction box mounts directly below the handlebar, and makes it so that no additional wiring or setup procedure is required to add your supplemental shifters.
The Shimano E-Tube Cockpit Junction Box is available in two versions: the SM-EW90-A, with three ports, and SM-EW90-B, with five ports. Combined with the three ports on the back of each STI lever, both boxes provides a huge range of setup options. Additionally, both versions of the new E-Tube Cockpit Junction Box feature a charging port for the new internal SM-BTR2 Di2 battery.
- A junction box that lets you expand shift switch placement
- Mounts below the bar for easy installation and maintenance
- Includes charging port for the SM-BTR2 Di2 battery
- Available in three- and five-port versions
- Compatible with Dura-Ace Di2 9070 drivetrains

A place for all of your Di2 plugs. Oh, and it's pretty key to making the system work.

Perfect Compliment to internal batteries

Not only is this thing the "brain" of the system, it also serves and the charging port for the internal battery. I like how Shimano made this box sleek and not terrible to look at. Also allows for adjustment on the road also.

It's a most
- Familiarity:

Fits great on the bike, connects with no problems. Make sure you use the connecter tool so you don't mess up you cables. Again, its a most, since this is what you need to connect you levers and the rest of the cables to go to your di2 derailleurs and battery. The charging port very easy to access too.

Critical Piece

Things brings together your Di2 system. The 5-point option is great if you need to install remote shifting at the end of your aero bars. This also hosts your battery warning light. Plug it in once a month or so!

More than just the junction box
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Keep in mind when considering the cost of such a small item that it not only gets the connections made, but also functions as a battery warning light, facilitates micro-adjusting the derailleur positions and is also where you plug in to charge up.

self explanatory really. It does a great job and works far better than the old ultegra one.

I have a few questions: 1. Does it come with the attachment kit to the stem? 2. What wire length do I need to connect to the shifters at a 400mm handlebar? Thanks Frank

Yes! The only group it won't work with is the DA7090 di2

Do all the ports have to be filled for the junction box to work? Meaning could you run a standard shifting setup off the 5 port model having the option of adding sprint shifters later?

Nope, You can buy the 5 port and only use 3. This will let you add remote shifters or other accessories down the road.

Does the E-tube cockpit junction come with...
Does the E-tube cockpit junction come with the Di2 wires for the shifters?

Hey Eric- The older junction boxes use to have E-tubes that were hardwired in. Now, this is only the 3/5 port junction box (the option is yours) with no included E-tubes, Let us know if you have any more questions on this!

I've got the same question about the wire length. Same 400mm handlebar. Here's my measurement based on SM-EW67A wires: 300mm could be too short for bigger hadlebars (or strange levers position). 350mm would be little loose. 300mm seems to be just right for me. Here's the picture of 300mm wire
