I have a 9 speed group system (dura ace), would this crankset work considering it’s 11 speed? Thanks

Hey Dennis, great question, thank you for asking. Although usually advised against for the aesthetics of unmatched Shimano bits, the front chainrings are one of the items that are a little less specific when it comes to the particular speed set-up you have (in the case of 9s, 10s, and 11s). This would work for your current set-up!

- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- True to size
First DuraAce crank set. How could it get out of the factory with a bent inner chainring. Of course Competitive sent out a chainring when I called. The packaging was in no way damaged. ? Dunno. Super happy to have a Dura Ace build up. However bike fitter thinks I should get a replacement saddle because the front of the ISM saddle are not in the same plane. Further more the LBS that built up my bike thinks the Dura Ace derailleur isn’t right. I’m going to adjust the derailleur and see if the shifts get better. It’s not at what you would expect from Dura Ace $$$$. Do 9100 DA rear derailleur have bent carbon cages?

my favorite cranks
- I've put it through the wringer
I have been using DA cranks for quite a while now, I've had some others here and there but I always go back. They are as stiff and efficient as they come. I really can feel a difference and I'll keep putting them on my personal bikes. Hit me up with any questions on them.

- I've used it several times
I put on the crankset a few weeks ago. I’ve put on 350 Miles since then. Stiff and light. Does exactly what it should do and I’m as satisfied with it as I am with the other dura ace components.

I have Cervelo R5 di2 dura ace with a rotor crankset with a Bottom bracket Bbright. Do you think I change to a crankset Dura ace ?
November 26, 2017
Hey Normand, you'll need to buy adapters to run this with your bike.

It will work if you replace the bottom bracket. Get a Hambini bottom bracket to convert it. Hambini.com. Don’t scrimp on the B.B. get a Hambini and it will work great.

ugly duckling that grows on you
When R9100 was first announced, I thought it was by far the ugliest group set on the market. Most people still think this, but the wide arm design has grown on me. In line with the rest of the group, its not really much of a revolution as just a small evolution. As always, the chainrings on the crank really are the shining star. Cold forged and filled with injection molded carbon fibers, they are both ridiculously stiff yet super light. They did change the spacing of the rings slightly, but they are realistically compatible with any 11 speed groupset.

My current setup is DA9000. In order to utilize the 34x30 option with 9100, do I just upgrade my crank set and derailleur to 9100? Will the 9000 brake/shift levers be OK with that mix? Thanks.

Hey Steve, I asked the same question to Lennard Zinn from VeloNews and his reply was that the only thing you would need was the 9100 rear derailleur, the 9100 cassette, and a new chain to compensate for the longer throw you will need because of the larger 30 tooth cassette. You do not need to change your crankset, because both the 9000 and 9100 are 11 speed.

Stiffer Without Sacrifices
- I've used it several times
Using these on my new Time and happy with the results so far. Stiffer and more adaptable to new frame designs (disc and shorter chainstays) and delivers power transfer and crisp shifting.
