ShimanoDi2 Inline Wireless Unit - EW-WU111
Item # SHI00EX
Di2 Inline Wireless Unit
The Shimano Di2 EW-WU111 Inline Wireless Unit boosts the system's ease of use by adding Bluetooth connectivity in addition to carrying over ANT+ to pair with an even wider range of devices. Paired with Shimano's E-Tube Project Wireless app, the Inline Wireless Unit lets you customize your drivetrain and update firmware right from your smartphone or other Bluetooth equipped device.
This diminutive component is like a black box for your bike, feeding data from your derailleurs to your phone or tablet so you can monitor drivetrain metrics like gearing and battery life. The latter is especially useful, as it's looking to be the most effective way the industry has come up with to ensure you won't unexpectedly run out of juice during the trip home. It also measures general riding metrics, so you're not sacrificing the functionality of a normal computer by adding drivetrain info to your cockpit. Your pedal revolutions will also be televised.
The Di2 EW-WUlll Inline Wireless Unit is compatible with Shimano's E-tube Di2 systems. In addition to it Bluetooth connectivity, it transmits via ANT+ to Shimano's own PRO computer, as well as other ANT+ equipped head units.
- Shimano's wireless unit gets upgraded with Bluetooth connectivity
- Communicates with devices with ANT+ and Bluetooth protocol
- Wirelessly customize your drivetrain with the E-Tube Project Wireless app

Easy upgrade that adds enormous benefits
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Fit:
- True to size
I actually thought my Di2 equipped bike came with this sensor however, I since learned some bikes will have them and other will not. Regardless, I ordered the sensor because I wanted that bluetooth and Garmin sensor capability. Please note, you also need the external wire to install this sensor which is why I gave it 4 stars as I think it should be included. The install is super easy and I was instantly able to link my e-tube Shimano app to my bike. I can now access all of my Di2 functionality from my phone. The best part is that I can now link my top hood buttons to my Garmin device and control it from there. I am able to scroll through the screens, create shortcuts to functions, and access navigation - it's incredibly cool. In short, this upgrade is worth it.

Definitely an upgrade

Install was very simple. It took less than five minutes to install it under the seatpost of a 2019 Specialized Venge. After install my phone detected it immediately however it failed the firmware update multiple times. I kept getting an error message about unstable wireless connection. I pulled the seatpost and had the unit almost right next to my phone and still got the message. It took a lot of patience to finally get it connected and working. After the update it paired immediately with my Garmin 520. The main reason I wanted it was for using the buttons on my brake hoods for scrolling the Garmin screens. This function was was easy to set-up and has functioned flawlessly. Also allows for easy shift profile changes (I prefer semi-synchronized) and allows monitoring of Di2 battery levels.

What did you have to do to finally get it to connect? Did you also have to get the EW-SD50 Electric Wire and installation tool? Does it give you cadence? I am getting my Venge Pro this weekend.

Just to be clear, did you connect the wireless unit to the internal battery, inline between the battery and the junction box at the bottom bracket?

Upgrading and Changing Settings easily
easy instalation, and once connected with your device, you can upgrade or change di2's settings without cables. Just only wireless connection. Beside this, you can synchronize your Di2 with your cycle computer, Beside this, you can synchronize your Di2 with your cycle computer, if it has some wireless conection mode.

clean install-great for training
It's one of those things you can live without but once you have it on your bike you can't live without it. Installed the wireless unit inside the bike using the access panel under the crank. Not recommended by Shimano but I got a strong signal to my cpu and phone. Love being able to log intervals from the hoods of my shifters. Can update firmware of all DI2 components with my phone. If your tech get one...

Great way to update and configure Di2
- Familiarity:

I bought this to update and configure my Di2 systeem with my iPhone since I don’t have a computer. I plugged it inline with the main wire from the junction A box and an extra 150mm wire and then used the included clips to secure it to my brakeline. It connected just fine to my iPhone right from the box, and I was then able to update and configure all of my Di2 components. Connecting it to my Garmin head unit is a nice feature so I can see the battery level. Being able to see what front and rear gears I am in is a nice feature, but I don’t use that feature on my head unit.

Almost threw it away

Make sure you install this thing pretty immediately; it's about the size of a bottle cage bolt and we mistakenly threw it away because it was hard to tell if it was even still in the packaging. Indeed, after a simple firmware update it all works well.

I am installing Di2 9150 with the DN-110 battery. Where should I install this inline wireless transmitter?

HI Seth, You will want to use the WU111 transmitter inline on the "main" wire that runs from the center port in the "A" junction into your frame. You will need an additional E-Tube wire to go from the A junction to the transmitter, then the main E-Tube wire plugs into the other end of the transmitter and continues to the B junction. The transmitter includes clips to attach the transmitter to the brake cable housing to keep it secure. Feel free to ask me any Di2 questions you might have or let me know if I can help with anything else. ekilbourn@competitivecyclist.com

Be sure to update firmware!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The unit works great, but shimano has been shipping a lot of these with a very base level firmware installed that will not let you sync to bluetooth until you plug the system into a computer and update. Once that is done, it syncs perfectly to a smartphone and lets you do firmware updates and Di2 customization from the phone. Also connects to certain head units and will show you current gear you are in and battery level.

Do you know if this product works with Ultegra Di2 11-speed? Thank you.

Yes it will but you will need the new internal battery, BT-DN110. If you have an external battery then you will need the new external battery mount. Without these, it will crash your system. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, you can reach out to me directly!
April 17, 2017
I just got off the phone Shimano tech support. I have a 2014 Kestrel w/ Ultegra Di2 11-speed with the battery mounted on the down tube, below the water bottle holder. According to "Randy", you need this, along with the Shimano BM-DN100-S Bluetooth Di2 Battery Mount. I'll update after I receive the parts.
