Description

An unsung hero.

When you turn the pedals, you often take for granted that each link of your chain will go on grabbing each cog of your cassette for every mile of every ride. That is, until the day it stops, and you're left standing in the shoulder questioning your life decisions with a stretched, broken, and useless chain. If you're in this position, we'd recommend upgrading to Shimano's XT/Ultegra CN-HG701 11-Speed Chain. Its anti-friction Sil-Tec coating and precise, reliable construction ensure long life and smooth pedaling. Whether you're on the road, trail, or somewhere in the middle, the HG701's asymmetrical design will keep you shifting consistently through your 11-speed drivetrain so you can focus on enjoying your ride.

  • The racer's chain for mountain and road bikes
  • Anti-friction coating keeps lost watts to a minimum
  • Includes a quick link for easier installment

Perfect with my new SRAM cassette!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Perfect fit with my new SRAM cassette for Iceman Cometh challenge 2019.

Ultegra CN H701 with Quick Link

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First off, this is a directional chain so be mindful when you install for the 1st time. The Shimano Quick link design works well and is reliable (installed mine with Park Tools MLP-1.2 Chain Pliers.) PROS: Flawless and crisp shifting from the first turn. Sweetly silent. CON: Wears too fast (barely 800 miles before I measured 0.5% stretch and had to replace) - I calculated 3.5 cents per mile (almost double what a KMC X11EL costs me.)

I got a new bike with Ultegra Di2 and 11-30, I will change to a 11-34 cassette, would this chain work?

What matters is the speed. 11 spd cassette use 11 spd chain.

You should also verify that the rear derailer has capacity for the larger 34T cog.

Works great

Pair this with a Shimano cassette and go ride! Easy install/removal...keep your drive train clean and correctly lubed and you'll be on the trail for many miles.

Chain Gang

Durable chain for all mountain adventures, make sure you got 11 gears before you slap this baby onto the rig.

Leave the factory lubricant on!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This latest incarnation of the Ultegra 11-speed chain lives up to expectations. You DO need chain pliers to install the master link, as it won’t immediately (and securely) click into place by simply putting pressure on a pedal to pull the chain apart, as is the case with SRAM PowerLock connecting links.

The factory lubricant on this Ultegra chain is much thinner and silkier than the grease-like stuff usually found on new chains. Do yourself a favor and leave it on until it begins to wear off. Just wipe off any excess lube and go ride. The chain shifts beautifully with it.

Hi, is this chain the same as the Ultegra 6800 chain? The price is less so I wanted to make sure it will work for my 11 speed road bike. Thanks.

Hi Lester, this is Shimano's newest 11 speed chain, it replaces the 6800 series and is fully compatible with all Shimano 11 speed drivetrains.

Great Chain, Great Price

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I don't think there's a better chain. The price is excellent, the quality is good, it's durable, light enough, it's got a coating reducing wear, shifts great in a Shimano drivetrain, and now has a quick link. Stock up, keep an eye on your chain wear, and you'll have a happy drivetrain.

All in the name

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the chain just because of the brand. Seems fine, I feel I have had to lube it a little more, but that could be just how I've been riding lately.

I must have gotten a bad one.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Everything I've read about this chain has been good, so when it came time to replace mine I bought it without hesitation. What a mistake! It broke twice within the first ten minutes of use. I was riding in Dupont when it happened, and had to kill an hour to go to one of the local bike shops to buy a replacement. I don't think I'll ever buy another one.

I have to assume there was some kind of defect with that chain. I run this chain on all three of my bikes, Niner Jet 9 RDO, Air 9 RDO and BSB 9 RDO and I have never had one break.

My Jet 9 in particular can see some abuse to the chain. All of my buddies run SRAM and I've watched as several SRAM chains have broken while my XT stuff just keeps on turning.

Was this being ridden with the Wolf set up that you have? Was the chain long enough to take a 49 tooth rear cog?

Unanswered Question

between xt and xtr chain, which one is more durable? thank you

Durable and Affordable

As far as Shimano chains go, Ultegra is the way to go. Competitive weight without lacking durability and longevity. Clean it well and pair it with your favorite lube and you'll be smooth rolling for months to come.

    Does the job

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The XT level chain will get the job done. If you are looking for a bit lighter weight and maybe more durability, go with the XTR version.

Chain is a chain is a chain

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Not really...Shimano chain paired with the cassette makes things work well....also used a quick link, not the pin (saving that one for a pinch).

XT vs XTR....less money and works just as good'r.

It now includes a quick link in the box (mine did, anyway)

Steven Y. Yes, both quik link and pin. It's nice to have a backup...

As sweet as a chain can get

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Nice chain that will go nicely with your new 1x11 setup. Not too heavy, and ride strong for miles and miles!

    great 11 speed chain

great chain for the money my only dislike is shimanos master link pin style, i prefer the kmc clip style but other than that its a solid chain

      Great Chain

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Excellent choice for your Shimano 11 speed drivetrain. Works great with narrow wide rings and is reasonably priced.

      Unanswered Question

Is this compatible with a Force 22 grouppo?

      Great Chain

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It probably goes without saying but like the rest of Shimano's Ultegra drivetrain, this chain works flawlessly. Totally to be expected but it's good to know that you can rely on your components. The fact that I rarely think about it is a testament.
