The uppers on the AM7 got a refreshing step up this year, while still using Shimano's durable synthetic leather, but opening up mesh panels for breathability, and omitting the lace-guard that trapped heat in on toasty days, leaving our feet feeling all too warm inside. Now we find a comfortable breeze gracing our toes to fight hot-foot and keep us hammering up and down trails all day. Another change occurred at the ankle, adding the same stretch mesh that you'll find on the ME7's adding a cuff that keeps rocks and trail debris from making its way into your shoe mid ride. Inside, you'll find largely the same construction, with the same fit and supportive insole to keep your arch and heel feeling good all day. The sole uses the same Vibram rubber as last year's flat version, but with the additional recessed cleat mount that sits out of the way for when hiking a bike is a must, allowing you to enjoy the same tacky traction as before, when the rubber hits the trail.

Nice shoe
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I finally switched from some super old-school style shoes to these and I'm pretty happy with the upgrade. My toes certainly thank me. I have fairly narrow feet with a low instep and these give me enough security and a close fit while still being able to wiggle my toes in the toe box. Much appreciated. I found they fit true to size and they feel sturdy and give enough support when I'm pedaling uphill or coming back down. I like the stretchy bit around the achilles for added comfort and to prevent rocks from getting in there. The laces tuck nicely into a band so you're not at risk of them getting caught in your crankset. I docked one star because I wish they had more ventilation. I've been biking in UT all summer and, especially the couple times I've ridden lifts, I can feel my toes baking in the sun. The toe box is completely solid impermeable material.

Solid Shoes
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I'm fairly new to MTB so these shoes may be great, I just am not a huge fan of these kind of shoes (I'd rather have something lighter and less chunky feeling). Definitely wish I had sized slightly down there seems to be too much space in the heel of my foot. Bought true to size. Been on several longer rides with these and they've held up great and saved me from a few injuries.
