Why We Like The 105 PD-R7000 Pedals

When we find the right road pedals, they mostly go unnoticed, and we often forget about them until something goes wrong and draws attention to them. Usually, when this occurs, it's time to pony up and purchase some and the usual criteria of not too heavy, not too expensive, and supremely reliable applies. Well if you're in this boat, that's exactly what you get with the 105 PD-R7000 Pedals from Shimano. Renowned for its strong and durable pedals, this R7000 model brings the weight savings of carbon to the party, all at a price you can actually live with.

Shimano didn't go full carbon fiber on the R7000, like on its top-tier pedals, to save some cash and instead uses the material to reinforce the resin body so it's almost as light and more resistant to damage. Where cleat meets pedal, stainless steel wings increase the durability and provides a wide platform helping to increase power transfer and stability. The cleat itself is Shimano's classic SPD-SL, ideal for all-around use, and the included "Yellow" version has three degrees of knee-friendly float and other versions are available separately that offer more or less float to suit your tastes. Shimano also thoughtfully designed the cleat for easy walking, so you don't go skating across the floor when you walk into the cafe.

  • A road pedal with top ranging features without breaking the bank
  • Carbon composite reinforced resin body drops weight
  • Stainless steel spindle and platform wings boost durability
  • Uses Shimano SPD-SL cleats
  • Yellow three-degree float cleats included
  • Adjustable release tension customizes the pedals to your preference

Great Pedals

I've put it through the wringer

I purchased these last year with my new road bike to replace the very old Speedplay lollipops I had on my old bike and am overall very happy with these. The pedals seem basically bulletproof and can be serviced with new grease (although the custom tool needed to do this is a bit annoying) Pros: durablity, large platform, adjustability with both tension and float (with different cleats) Cons: while the pedals are durable, the cleats are much less so and could be made of some tougher material. Not as easy to engage as Speedplay Overall they're better than my Speedplays for 2 main reasons. First is that the larger platform is more comfortable and stable as my feet would occasionally be sore after long or hard rides. Second is the design of the Speedplay cleats puts the screw heads in direct contact with the ground so after any amount of walking on pavement you'll end up having challenges to remove the cleat from your shoes. Fighting to get the cleats off with rounded off heads is no fun.

I've used it several times

This is my first time using clip-in peddles. They are awesome and hold up well to the beating I put them through on eat ride.

Outstanding Pedals

I've used it several times

Great pedals. Had a tough time deciding as it was my first time migrating to clip-ins, but these are the real deal. Would buy again- highly recommend.

Shimano Work Horse

I've put it through the wringer

Could not be happier with these pedals. I have always been a big fan of 105 components. I have never quite been able to justify the price difference between 105 and Ultegra because 105 is just so darn solid. I have been using entry-level pedals on my not so entry-level bike for years and I wish I would have made the switch sooner.

Shimano 105 PD-R7000 Pedals

I've put it through the wringer

These pedals are exactly what I expect from Shimano. Perfect in every way regarding performance. In addition, instructions for installation and tension adjustment are clear and complete. And, Backcountry.com delivered them out of inventory, on time, and communicated the shipment and expected delivery like the Pro's that they are. Great experience.

Putting them on Lake cx 238s how much float do they have? Am used to speedplay zeros. Mine are not the Wahoo branded pedals.
