Different because it should be.

Far more than just a pink-striped re-skinning of a men's product, the Selle Italia SLR Lady Flow saddle is a reworked, female-focused version of one of the company's all-around best saddles.

The SLR Lady Flow is a refinement on the classic SLR Flow platform, with slight changes being made to optimize it for a woman's anatomy. The sizable, Super Flow cutout relieves pressure by directing your body's weight onto your sit bones. This way, you won't be sidelined by mid-ride discomfort. The 275mm length is unaffected, compared to the men's version, and the rear wings that support your sit bones grow to 135mm, or four millimeters in comparison to the standard SLR. Additionally, the nose also gets a touch wider, and like the cutout, it adds supports by moving your body away from pressure points. Speaking of which, there's an extra dose of padding over the standard SLR, yet you'll still find that this saddle is rather minimal in comparison to the Flite or SLS series.

For the base, Selle Italia chose a reinforced nylon composite that incorporates a 30% blend of carbon fiber. In turn, it produces a shell that's supportive, yet slightly flexible. At the rails, you'll find Selle Italia's Ti 316 rails, a surgical grade alloy with such a high strength-to-weight ratio that Selle Italia rates the SLR Lady Flow for mountain bike use, too. The hard-wearing, synthetic Lorica cover is also equal to everything from road spray to trail abuse.

Not for me.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My old Fizik Arione had seen better days and so I decided to look for a new saddle. My Arione (men's) always had caused chafing in front and I was thinking a women's specific saddle might alleviate that problem. As a serious road cyclist, I wanted something lightweight, firm, comfortable while on the nose, and yes, it had to look good too. I selected the Lady Flow and was excited to try it out. My first ride went well, with absolutely no chafing - even while riding in the drops or on the nose. Loved it! The problems appeared after riding several days in a row. My sit bones were so sore that I literally developed swollen tissue and bruising. Now, I don't mind a hard saddle - actually prefer it - but this saddle just hits my sit bone wrong. My sit bones end up compressing the limited saddle padding and ride on the inner rim of the cutout, which is hard plastic. Ouch! I wanted to love this sexy saddle, but simply can't ride it daily- or every other day for that matter. If you have wider sit bones, whatever that means, and you like a hard racing saddle, I would definitely recommend this saddle. It's just not right for me.
