Stay dry from the feet up.

Sealskinz has made a name for itself creating lightweight, breathable waterproof gear, and its Hydrostop line is its most secure. On the days you look at the radar and know rain is unavoidable, heading out the door in the Road Ankle Hydrostop Sock will help you avoid wet toes and chafing feet during longer rides. By keeping your feet dry, it'll also help your core stay warmer in challenging conditions.

Part of Sealskinz lightest sock line, the Road Ankle Sock is made with a lightweight, breathable synthetic fabric and backed by a merino wool liner to help regulate body temperature and facilitate moisture transfer away from your skin. Water coming off of your knee warmers and legs will be stopped before it can seep into your sock by the elasticized Hydrostop cuff, which provides a contoured, but not restrictive, fit around your ankle.

Just thick socks

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Used these on a two week springtime bike tour. Definitely not waterproof, unless you quickly pass a gentle sprinkler. Also, when they get wet, they take days to dry. Cold, wet feet, which I would've had anyways.

Excellent for rowing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently purchased these socks with the intention of using them for rowing. Often, the dock is wet from the previous night's rain or from other shells being taken from the water. These socks have done a tremendous job of keeping my feet dry while on the dock and when in the boat. On rainy days, I cover the top of the sock with my leggings. The hydrostop cuff seems to work well, but I have not tested it on a rainy day without leggings over it. The only downside I have found is that they are not too warm. I am thinking about wearing a liner sock when the temperature goes below 45 degrees to keep my feet warm.

Nothing waterproof about these socks

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: X-large

These socks received such great reviews online that I picked up a pair after a particularly wet bike commute to work.
The socks are very well made, thick and warm, with a rubber gasket-like cuff at the top.
They did not however, keep my feet dry, despite the fact that I wore rain booties over my cycling shoes. When I arrived at work, my shoes were wet, these socks were dripping wet and, yes, my feet were wet.
I am not sure that these socks add anything over a good pair of woolen socks.
