The Sci'Con Aerotech Travel Case has been put through the wringer by pro teams Liquigas Cannondale, Astana, and Saxobank Sungard as they take their bikes all over the world. The extreme level of protection for your bike makes it quite possibly the finest hard case money can buy.

The AeroTech's ABS shell is 5mm thick for the ultimate in dent-proofness. Inside, you'll find generous internal padded upholstery, two protective wheel covers, and foam sleeves to protect your frame from scratches or dings. You'll also receive 4 reinforced TSA-approved locks, recessed wheels, an ergonomic handle, and a nylon stash bag for your saddle, shoes, and any additional accessories. If you're searching a complete security package, you've found it. And navigating the airport concourse with the AeroTech is a breeze. It steers and rolls with ease thanks to its high-quality thermorubber caster wheels and intelligent use of handles and straps. As one customer told us, it's like having your own carrier robot.

The Aerotech Travel Case includes is within the size restrictions for UPS, and all major airlines, measuring 45 x 15 x 37in and weighing 25 lbs.

Please Note: If you have a bike frame with an integrated seat mast, this case will most likely not be the best choice. Sci'Con makes another option that will work -- the Aero Comfort Plus Travel Case.

Will this case work with a road bike with disc brakes?

Also: Can you use it to ship via FedEx or UPS?

Yes this case will allow for disc brakes. I would typically add a little bit of protection on the rotors so that they are not contacting anything so they do not get bent. I would also slide in brake pad stops, so when the bike is traveling, the pads don't compress during transit.

If you have any other questions, or if you want to pull the trigger on it, please reach out to me at

A little bit of reading goes a long way...."The Aerotech Travel Case includes is within the size restrictions for UPS, and all major airlines, measuring 45 x 15 x 37in and weighing 25 lbs." disc brakes or not doesn't matter axle types are the key.

Safe and Secure

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I researched a lot of bike boxes before buying this one. What ultimately sold me was the added protection the hard case demonstrated over the Aero Comfort 2.0 TSA Travel Case. Although this box is very pricey, when I compared it to my $8000 frame, it was a no brainer. I have traveled domestically without any issues, however, if you travel on a regional carrier, be sure and call ahead to make sure the cargo hold is big enough to hold it. I know CRJ 900's will take it. Not sure about CRJ 200's. I gave the box a five star although I was disappointed with the cheesy pads provided with it for protecting the frame and bars from the web straps. My suggestion is one never owns enough pipe insulation. Some reviews complained about weight. The box weighs about 25 lbs. When fully loaded with my frame, wheels, shoes, helmet, pedals, tools, pipe insulation, zip ties etc. it was 47 lbs. on the button. Airline does charge extra for checking the bag, but no extra weight charges. I have read a review objecting to the small handle provided for moving the case. I found it worked well for its intended purpose, lifting the box into the car or elsewhere. The box fit easily into the back seat of my X3 sideways. My dog gets the back all to himself. It also fits easily into the back of my son's Subaru Outback. I have also moved it easily in a Honda Accord, but anything smaller may be problematic. I had no issues rolling it to and from my vehicle at the airport despite the six inches of snow in Montana. Wheels have survived so far, but that is an issue with any wheeled luggage and airlines. Replacement wheels are readily available if necessary. I found the reinforcements to the wheels inside the box well designed. I hope I do not have the issue the other reviewer noted. The box is very easy to pack. It took me about 30 minutes the first time because of cutting pipe insulation to fit. Reusing the insulation, packing takes less than 15 minutes and about the same to reassemble the bike. You must drop the bars, remove the seat, and remove the pedals, but that is no big deal. Do not forget to pack carbon grease for reassembly. The hinge is a long piano type which seems well suited to the needs of the box. My frame is 54 cm. and I had plenty of space. I recommend this product to anyone who wants to have no worries about his or her frame arriving in one piece.

Disappointed in warranty for the Price.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

While there is no question this is the best way to protect your bike, the warranty and service do not live up to the price tag. Two areas of the bike case broke that support the wheels. Once in transit and once while wheeling along the side walk. Scicon would not live up to their warranty claiming they are not responsible for third party damage. One wheel broke on the plane, one broke while I had it. 1) The case should live up to travel 2) As second broke in my possession it should be warrantied. But no. Very disappointed. You'll note this is the second review about the dismal warranty response from Scicon,.

Disappointed in warranty for the Price.

Had the same problem with a Aero comfort 2. These cases are just crap.

If it's got to be the best then this is!

I'm a big fan of Scicon products, I use their Aerocomfort on short-haul travel but this case is what you need if you're doing something intercontinental or just want the top level of protection. It's expensive but it's worth it if you travel a lot and have an expensive bike and lack of mechanical skills- very easy to pack.

If it's got to be the best then this is!

The Rolls Royce of Bike Boxes

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When it comes to travel safety I've found the Aerotech Evolution to be the absolute KING of the bike box jungle. Having done well over 20 flights with it this year it's proven to be super robust against heavy baggage handlers and resilient to their lack of consideration towards my two-wheeled prized possession. It's compact and the 360 degree wheels make it easy to navigate through a busy airport at speed as opposed to drag (not that I'm ever pushed for time to make check-in....honest). Internal protection is second to none. I normally pack my helmet, shoes and a small tool kit in the box as well and can have everything in the box and locked in less than half an hour. If you're worried about travelling with your bike then I'd definitely recommend having a closer look at the Aerotech.

very disappointing product and service

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This case is not durable. It only survived a couple flights before cracking around one of the latches. Scicon refused to replace the case. Fortunately, my bike was not damaged. In addition, the case is slippery and the wheels do not rotate or spin well -- they quickly clog from dirt and small gravel.

While this is an older review, it coincides with other things I have read about them standing behind their warranty. This was my 1st choice for purchase of two of these. However, product support is a very important component to purchase consideration. I'm passing on this particular product based on multiple negative reviews on warranty support.

High Level of Protection

I bought this case to protect my bike while traveling overseas. There is no doubt that this case will survive extreme abuse. The other great thing is that the biggest preparation for traveling is to remove and secure your wheel set inside the built in protective wheel wells. So if you are not interesting in loosening or removing seats, handlebars, derailleur and pedals this offers a big advantage over many of the other cases on the market. The other thing I really like are the TSA approved locks. They without a doubt will keep this case secure and locked protecting your bike and valuables. Speaking of valuables there is definitely room in this case to stuff in all your extras like helmets, bags etc.

So with all the positives there is always a few negatives. The downside is the size of the case. Once you arrive at your destination you will need to move this case around and additionally you will need to get it inside a vehicle that is large enough to accept it with room left over for your other luggage. Cars in most foreign countries outside the USA are usually on the small side so keep this in mind when traveling with this case abroad.
