Plus-sized speed.

The Rocket Ron 27.5 Plus Tire features the same PaceStar Triple Compound that makes its more svelte sibling ideal for XC racing — there's just more of both to love. PaceStar Triple is Schwalbe's solution to the classic compound conundrum. Instead of forcing us to negotiate every trail situation with the same durometer of rubber, PaceStar Triple involves strategic hardness at specific points on the tire ranging from a hard, fast-rolling centerline to grippy, smart-cornering shoulders.

Schwalbe also gave the chubby Ron the same low-profile tread and U-block shoulder knobs of the skinny Ron, just in a higher quantity to span the tire's bigger waistline. These tread blocks are angled at 20 degrees or so towards the outside of the tire. Compared to the Racing Ralph, the slightly more prominent blocks have been spaced a bit further apart to achieve more void space. This is part of the reason that it self-cleans in mucky stuff so you can continue to have traction to drive down the trail and keep the bike upright. A small sipe doesn't quite divide the block, creating the "U" shape. They work to counteract the lateral forces endured when cornering to maintain traction and to keep the bike stable.

We're offering the tire with either a LiteSkin or SnakeSkin carcass. Depending on your choice, you'll get a faster, lighter race tire or a tire that can train and race with more puncture resistance. The LiteSkin option is, well, lighter — by a claimed 60g per tire — and features less rolling resistance on fast hardpack. The SnakeSkin option is admittedly heavier, but it gives much better puncture resistance, especially in the monofilament sidewalls, which will come into play on the sharp edges of rock gardens. Regardless of which you choose, Schwalbe's Tubeless Easy design makes for a smooth, hassle-free conversion to a tubeless set up. No more shaking, re-inflation, or constant re-application of tire sealant.
