Description

Racing Ralph Addix Tire

With modern XC courses being more technically challenging that ever, Schwalbe has redesigned their Racing Ralph Addix Tire with a new tread pattern that's specifically optimized for the rear of the bike. By widening the lugs and adding more grip edges in the center tread, the Racing Ralph boasts superior traction and quick acceleration across a wide range of trail surfaces. Seeing that it's designed as a rear tire, the tread features a low profile that minimizes rolling resistance and stays extremely quiet out on the trail.

The new Racing Ralph retains Schwalbe's proven Addix Speed compound that provides substantial grip while boasting the lowest rolling resistance of all the Addix compounds. This tire is focused on speed, yet has good longevity due to the harder rubber used in the compound. Durability is further enhanced by the SnakeSkin sidewall protection that helps the tire resist slices and punctures from rocks and other trail debris. And with Schwalbe's Tubeless Easy technology, these tires seat easily for a headache-free tubeless setup.

Awesome

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've got this on my Ibis Ripley on the rear with the Racing Ray up front. It's used on my local trails in southeast Michigan. Mostly hardpack with some lose dirt and gravel areas, roots, and minimal rocks and sand.

So far I've tried 2.6 nobby nic, 2.6 ikon, 2.6 rekon, 2.4 rekon and this on the rear. It rolls significantly faster than all the other options. It's better climbing than the 2.4 rekon, the rekons ramped knobs don't grip very well under climbing. I didn't like the 2.6 tires due to resistance and what I felt was uncontrolled bounce.

It's currently mounted on my 35mm inner width Ibis aluminum wheels for testing. It was super difficult to get the beads set with a compressor and soap. No way I could perform a Trailside fix. I'll probably move it to a 25-30mm rim next year.

On the 35mm rim it was still more of a rounded profile than the 2.4WT rekon.
