Description

Why We Like The Freedom 2-Bike Rack

Saris's Freedom 2 Rack eliminates the struggle of trying to get two seemingly incompatible bikes onto a hitch rack. Where other racks force us to lower seats or add extra straps, the Freedom 2 features sliding wheel trays to fit any bike with a wheelbase up to 48in. In this way, bikes can adjust left-to-right to get handlebars away from saddles for the most secure fit. Saris re-examined the way bikes attach to the rack itself: the Freedom 2 utilizes their patent-pending Cuscino system, which cradles the bike's downtube without scratching or marring the finish. From kids bikes to step-through frames to road and mountain bikes, the Freedom 2 can fit nearly any bike in your garage for less time fiddling and more time riding.
  • A versatile hitch rack to get your bike across town or across the country
  • Sliding wheel trays adjust to pair any two bikes
  • Downtube cradle provides scratch-free security for frames
  • Compatible with nearly any bike from kids frames to mountain to triathlon

Low price for a reason

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Although the price is relatively affordable for a hitch-mount tray rack, that's just about all it has going for it. I have the Saris Superclamp EX2 on my wife's SUV. Much easier to load the bikes. The problem with the Freedom tray rack is how it's designed. The middle rail that has the downtube clamps make it difficult to adjust properly because the rail is positioned right where the pedal crank would be. The adjustable wheel trays help somewhat, but be prepared to spend some time moving these things around - especially if you're trying to fit two bikes on the rack...now you have to contend with positioning both bikes so the pedal crank arms are clear of the middle rail. Other reviews have mentioned the issue of the downtube clamps potential to rub the paint off the bike's frame - especially if you're traveling long distances. I can see how that would be a concern. Gonna sell this locally and get something else that secures the bikes by holding clamping down on the tires/wheels. This design seems to be the best solution to a (1) easy loading of the bikes, and (2) no ruined paint finish on the bike frame.
