Ready whenever you need it.
Late and early season rides are always speckled with unpredictability, and while a thermal jersey may be all you need to stay warm, they just don't hold up to major gusts or sudden showers the same way that a windproof and water-resistant membrane can, which is why we love the Santini Guard 3.0 Vest. Its lightweight packability coupled with element-shielding membrane makes it an easy go-to vest for any ride that might transition from sunny and warm to a chilly shower, and back again.
The Guard 3.0 Vest is made from incredibly lightweight and stretchy polyester, and layered with a ZeroWind membrane. ZeroWind, as the name would have you guessing, is designed to slice through cold gusts, preventing icy breezes from penetrating to your core, while still allowing breathability from the inside out. It's designed to wick away perspiration as you pedal, so you can maintain your own micro-climate around your core. ZeroWind is water-resistant to protect you from sudden showers, but it isn't designed to be a rain piece, so it might not hold up to hours of downpour as well as your burlier rain shell.
The vest features a slim, form-fitting cut to reduce bulk, and with the elastic stretch that its fabric offers, you don't have to worry about excessive fabric flapping in the wind. Instead, you'll find a fit that accommodates a jersey underneath, but sits close to your base layers to trap heath within. For the sake of easy access and packability, the Guard 3.0 Vest has 1 zippered back pocket that the vest can be folded into to stow away in your jersey's back pocket when you don't need extra coverage. The back features high-visibility reflective detailing to draw the attention of busy motorists when you're on the road, helping to keep you safe when the lighting gets low.
