Why We Like The Blur Carbon S Mountain Bike

Riding fast through the woods and beating our buddies might be tricky on a long travel 29er, but with the Santa Cruz Blur Carbon S Mountain Bike getting left in the dust is a thing of the past. This 100mm travel mountain bike makes getting up the mountain deceptively easy all while staying composed while we rally down it. This hyper-focused cross-country machine promises to help us leave it all out there on the race course. The only thing left after getting on the Blur is to get our intervals in to make sure we can take some local PR's.

Geometry on the Blur is dialed in for speed all while giving us plenty of composure when we're cross-eyed and dead tired. The progressively slacked out 68.3-degree head-tube angle keeps us rolling over trail obstacles while mated to our big 29in tires. A nice and steep 76.5-degree seat-tube angle has us over the center of the bike and charging hard on the climbs, all while keeping us comfortable while we're pedalling hard through flowy chunky terrain. Reach on the blur is appropriate for the build, and a medium getting 450mm of reach means in that rough downhill terrain we won't be needing to squeeze the brakes quite as hard.

Spec on this interation of the Blur doesn't miss a beat, with top-of-the-line RockShox componenets supporting season after season of hits. The bike is decked out with the SID fork and rear SidLuxe shock, two impressively lightweight systems that support on the descents and climbs. The drivetrain is fully kitted in upgradebale SRAM Eagle GX components. If we need replacement parts or want to invest in upgrades, the Eagle line of SRAM is all fully compatible with one-another.

The lightweight Carbon C frame leaves nearly nothing to be desired and is only one step down from the CC model. Maxxis Aspen tires in the 2.4in width allow for better grip when we need it and less rolling resistance while we're railing corners. When it comes to setting PR's, getting on podiums, there's no tool better than the 3rd generation of the Blur. This bike is specced excellently to allow for plentiful upgrades as we get addicted to racing while still being competitive out of the box.

*Due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change. I just did my second ride after some upgrades; this bike climbs fast and handles great on technical terrain. If you are looking for a marathon bike, I would recommend it.

Amazing bike, poorly assembled

Received my Blur and it was very well packaged. The bike itself is absolutely amazing! Handles like a dream and is wickedly fast. Unfortunately, whoever assembled mine must have been new or poorly trained. The cables were so short that the bars would not turn past 80 degrees without stressing the housings. In the event of a crash the cables would have likely broken or pulled loose from attachment points. This required me to replace all cables and housing, which was an unexpected additional expense and time commitment. Also, when replacing the cables each one already had broken strands and the housings had very crudely cut, jagged ends. In addition, the Twistloc housing screw had been over torqued and stripped so instead of locking the suspension it just spun freely on the bar. This required me to purchase a replacement at another out of pocket cost of $100.00. Finally, when looking at the build sheet I noticed the recorded torque used to tighten the stem was almost double the max recommended by the manufacturer. Fortunately there doesn't appear to be any damage, but it certainly helps explain the stripped screw hole on the Twistloc. I did relay my findings to customer service and was simply told they would "pass it on". No offer to send new cables or housings, no offer to compensate for my time. I give the bike itself a solid 5 out of 5, however the poor assembly and lackluster response from customer service drops the overall experience significantly.

Hi Jackson, Hannah from Competitive Cyclist here. I am so sorry to hear about this experience and I have reached out to you directly to try to resolve this for you. Best, Hannah S

Good to know. Pulling my bike out of the cart now! Thanks.

I have had nothing but excellent service from CC. Sorry yours was different.
