Item # SAL002U

One part boot and two parts running shoes.

The Salomon Men's XA Pro 3D CS WP Trail Running Shoe is built to bust through wet and muddy conditions with ease. When your evening trail run turns into a muddy suffer fest, you'll be glad you have the XA Pro 3D on, because with the Climashield waterproof membrane, it will fend off moisture, and with the Quick-dry mesh upper, it'll dry quickly when you stomp through a puddle. The Ortholite midsole provides a comfortable platform for your foot to come down on, while the shaped EVA footbed cradles your foot over miles of trail.

The midsole implements three technologies to provide your foot with optimum cushion and to propel it forward. Dual-density EVA and compressed EVA work together to save on weight and offer increased stability over variable terrain. Meanwhile, the 3D advanced chassis is designed to provide a more comfortable take-off to keep your feet moving forward. The Contragrip sole handles everything from mud to rock, and a toe bumper provides additional protection when you're navigating extra rocky terrain.

  • Climashield membrane
  • Quick-dry mesh upper
  • Ortholite foam insole
  • Quicklace closure
  • EVA midsole
  • Mud guard, tongue cover, and toe bumper protection
  • Low profile Contragrip sole

Good Trail Running Shoe, But It's Heavy

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I am a big fan of Solomon shoes, and I was excited to see these were half off. They're solid trail running shoes with great traction and ankle support, but they are VERY heavy. Full disclosure, my mileage has been way down as of late, so it's possible I'm feeling the weight of the shoe even more. But it is definitely heavier than the Speed Cross 3.

Like good boots, need breaking in.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 8.5

I own a pair of Salomon snow boots, and now the XD Pro. After having them for a few weeks I can confidently recommend them to anyone who wants a supportive shoe, that is easy to use. These feel burly, like they are built to last. Salomon shoes are true to size in length, but come tight in width. They are not made of natural materials, but they do give. Over the course of three work days, they became softer and conformed to my foot. They fit like a glove now, and I really do like the lacing system. My feet do get slightly hot after extended periods of wear. I've had my other pair of Salomon shoes for a little over a year and they look brand new. I look forward to the trails I'll see wearing these shoes!

Not to bad

It works for what I use them for and like other reviews they do run a little small

Comfortable but had to return immediately due to it too tight. Runs 0.5 size small.

Solid build, comfortable fit

I've had several pairs of Merrell Chameleons—with the quick-lace closure, which this show has. These (Salomon XA Pro 3D CS WP) feel much more solidly built, and I expect will last longer. These are better for "off-road" walks, too. After 2-3 weeks, now—so far, so good. I agree: order a size larger than you might normally think.

Sizing not accurate

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I really wanted these shoes. Got them and they are sized about 1/2 to one full size small. What sucks is no free returns. I have to pay $7 for something that could have been validated on the site. Others say they are true to size in their reviews. Not sure it's the exact same shoe but the ones I received were not sure to size. I'll likely rebuy elsewhere with better return policies for sizing issues.

William, we're sorry to hear you had a bad experience with sizing. We'll often work with customers on return shipping when you give us a call. In the end, the important thing is that you get what you want. We hope you'll give us another chance to earn your business.

Good Shoe!

I bought this for my son who loves the shoe. He says until they are broke in they are tight to your feet.

    These are not waterproof

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I do not recommend these if you are expecting waterproof shoes. After 20 minutes in moderate rain, my socks are soaked and every step goes squish squish. Useless.

Hope you were at least wearing pants or better yet, gaiters...rain goes in from the top too.

I REALLY wanted to LOVE these!

They look like sneakers but feel like tactical boots. If I ever get into a fight or in a situation I either have to get away from several guys...I hope I am wearing these on that day. They are stiff out of the box so it will probably take a while to break in. They also fit a bit on the small side, I have flat feet and at times I wasn't sure if I should return them for a half size bigger but they are no longer on sale so I will think about it overnight. They are kick-ass sneakers for sure.

Next day update: I just finished processing an exchange for a half size larger. They are narrow and tight on the toes. (I have flat feet) Hopefully the half size bigger will fit just right.

Update after receiving replacement half size larger: Well I was really hoping they would fit. They were too long for my foot but I could live with that. Unfortunately even a half size larger and they are still too narrow for my flat feet. I had them on less than 5 minutes and the arch section of my foot was starting to tingle and go numb. I love how rugged these sneakers are constructed and I wish they would fit me but they are not made for flat feet.

Wow. I had the same experience with these shoes. Great shoes... but unfortunately not for me.

Same thing here! The shoes looked great, had all the features I could ask for and seemed built to last. Alas, but only for a narrow footed person. I hope Salomon addresses this matter with wider sizes. If they do, I'll buy another pair in a heartbeat.

    My favorite non-gortex shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    • Size Bought: 10.5

Meets the standards of the XA 3PRO 3D GTX but a little cheaper.
I am on my second pair. (initial pairs have been GTX version) The first pair lasted longer than expected as they had plenty of miles on them.

Please understand after 4 years experience with XA PRO 3D's they do require a slight break in. They may seem stiff out of the box, but give them about 5 miles of trail time. After that, they are golden.

They have been to the oceans of guam, to the mud and cold streams of Colorado/Washington. They truly are the best trail shoe.

I wear 10.5 is some shoes, many I wear size 11. In all Salomon 3D chassis, I wear 10.5. So... true to size I suppose?

PS. When I say "put them through the wringer"... I mean it. I have beat the daylight/nightlights out of these things.

    My favorite non-gortex shoe

    Great tool for the job!

I use these Salomon XA Pro for long distance backpacking, over 50 mile hikes. They protect your feet exceptionally well from stubbed toes and support your arches. I carry a 40-45 pound pack and feel very comfortable and supported throughout the hike. Little to no break-in period, drys quickly after a stream crossing. Great shoes! I bought the climashield over the gortex, for I believe it drys faster after a stream crossing.
