Stay light on your feet and move fast across rugged terrain on race day.

Salomon created the SpeedCross 3 Trail Running Shoe for women who can't stand to run on the pavement when they race on foot. Comprised of lightweight uppers and a flexible midsole and outsole, this shoe offers ample protection from hazards on the trail and an aggressive design that helps you move fast. Slide your foot inside and you'll immediately fall in love with the contoured and supportive fit, and just a single pull of the QuickLace tab tightens the laces and locks your foot in place. Running on the trail means that you're bound to encounter some sloppiness, so Salomon gave this shoe water-resistant textile, a mud guard, and large, traction-happy lugs.

Salomon divides its running shoes into a number of different collections: the XS for speed in all conditions, the XR for performance training, and the XT for all-terrain running. This shoe, the SpeedCross 3, belongs to the XS collection, which makes it ideal for blazing through tough terrain from late spring to early fall. Runners who want even more weather protection than this shoe offers might prefer the Speedcross 3 CS, which comes with a waterproof breathable membrane in the forefoot to keep your foot dry when you're faced with rain, mud, and the like.

  • Fit is optimized for the shape and size of a woman's foot
  • Upper is comprised of a combination of breathable mesh for comfort in hot weather and durable textile that's supportive and lightweight
  • Anti-debris mesh keeps dirt and sticks from finding their way to your toes, and rugged mud guards lend extra durability and protection
  • Feather construction and LT muscle chassis combine to create a stable platform that's also relatively light for the amount protection it offers
  • External Sensifit structure wraps from the top of the outsole to the top of the instep, locking the foot in place once your laces are tightened
  • Ortholite sockliner provides extra cushion and maximum comfort
  • Quicklace lacing system allows you to secure the laces and get a nice, even fit with just a pull of a single cord at the front; lace security tab tucks into a small pocket on top of the tongue so it won't flap around when you're on the move
  • 11mm drop (heel-forefoot offset) offers a more traditional running shoe feel and supports runners who naturally heelstrike (or prefer to) when running
  • Molded EVA midsole provides cushioning and shock absorption
  • Aggressive, non-marking Contragrip rubber treads help you keep traction on slippery surfaces

His and Hers!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs small

Bought these for my girlfriend after she obsessed over mine. She loves these for the style and absolute comfort. In fact, she wears them practically everywhere. Normally she wears a 6.5 but ended up buying a 6 which fit.

Friends for your feet

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Its amazing to finally find a shoe that fits my low-volume narrow foot that I can wear for hours, through rivers, scrambling up scree, and hitting some serious pavement without even noticing they're there. The pull laces are fantastic, and the ortho footbed cuddles your foot so you can focus on your activity. These are going to be my only trail shoes, approach shoes, and everywhere shoes for the foreseeable future!

These are some of the most comfortable trail running shoes - not to mention the grip is amazing. I bought the pink color and they pop! I'm normally a size 7.5 and sized up just in case I wanted to wear a thicker sock. These are a must-have!

    Girlfriend's Favorite Trail Shoe

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

This is my girlfriend's second pair of this shoe. She has used it for long trail runs and loves the lightweight nature, breathability of the shoe, and traction offered by the aggressive tread. The toe box leaves plenty of room for feet to swell after long miles and/or in high-altitude.

    Speedy Support

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I just received my pair of the Speedcross 3 and took them out on the trails for a 6 mile break-in run. I have never before had such a supported, comfortable run - especially not with a brand new pair of shoes! They were true to size, and I felt like my ankles were stable even on technical down-hills. For those looking for a speedy, but supported ride, I highly recommend.

These shoes were amazing! The traction I got from hiking to Donut Falls, in Provo Canyon, UT was easy peasy! They treaded through rock and dirt with no issues. They have good drainage for water. Part of our hike was through water and it did well. I didn’t slip much and it gripped the mossy rocks pretty well. I purchased this shoes for trail running and they did well! I can’t wait for my next Spartan Race in these shoes! Put them to the real test! =)

    Wife's Favorite Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

My wife is a big trail runner and she won't use anything else. Very aggressive tread ensures you'll stick to just about anything. Like other Salomon shoes, they are very durable and will last longer than other brands. Highly recommended.

Can't beat these, they are forever gold.

You can wear these hiking or for what they are more designed for, those trails that need to be ran on. The aggressive tread is a specific trait they are loved for and they are higher on the ankle then most runners, as in your no-show socks regardless are no show socks in these, there will be no peek-a-boo happening. I purchased some for one of my ladies that was going to purchase something else! Can you believe it. After we talked to her into these this is what she had to say...

"These shoes are a life changer. I wear them every time I go out hiking or camping. They are somewhat water resistant and the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. There was also no need to break them in, they fit great straight out of the box!"

I purchased Madison's true size in these. If you have a wider footbox keep in mind you might want to try the 1/2 size up for more comfort.

Can't beat these, they are forever gold.

Now we are a Salomon family

I bought these for my wife, so this is my review compiling her thoughts about the shoes. The bottom line is, she loves them, and she is running further and more comfortably than ever!
She needed a dedicated neutral trail running shoe with good ankle support and not too low of a drop (to prevent achilles pain). These fit the description exactly. She has narrow feet and they fit her well and snugly - not sure if they would be good for wider feet. She tried on these and the climashield versions and found they fit differently, so be sure to try on the same shoe type you want to buy. With a tread as aggressive as these, just keep them on the trails where they are happiest and they will thank you for it with a long and grippy life!

    Walkin' with Style

Good ankle support. Traction is really dependable while climbing steep rocky slopes. Color combinations are unique and fun to make a great shoe for all adventures

    I am hooked!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

I already have a pair of Salomon Speedcross and I love them! They have excellent support for your foot, are lightweight and fashionable. I was looking for the Burdeaux color and you had them, which was great. Iam not much of a runner yet, at 55 years old, but plan of getting into that and these shoes feel like they would be great for that. Actually I am a ER nurse and am on my feet a lot and have been wearing these to work and at the end of the day my feet still feel great!
I wear size 10 wide and these fit perfect, where most of the time I have to go a size up in other shoes due to my wide feet.

    Great shoes with great tread

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 8.5

These trails shoes look great, have some serious tread and are generally pretty comfy - especially on shorter runs.
As mentioned in some of the other reviews, you can see the tread starting to wear, even after a few runs on pretty soft ground. But they grip so well I'm not too concerned if they don't last me quite as long as previous trail shoes.
I need quite a lot of arch support and I find my feet get a little fatigued after a while, but I don't think this would be an issue for anyone who needs light - medium support.
Overall, these are a brilliant shoe.

this is what walking on a cloud is like!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 7

I finally bought a pair of Salomon's! My friend just bought his 18th pair. Everyone I know that owns a pair, raves about them! These shoes are popular for good reason! They are THE most comfy pair of shoes that have ever graced my feet. The tread is awesome and great for trail running. My friends swears they are the best for canyoneering!

    They run true to size!

salomon killing it - once again

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large

I run the speedcross 3 for men myself. After my lady broke her old shoes simply in half because she runs like a frantic, she wanted to look into these and there is really nothing to say other than - wow! she thinks she has found her match for running and uses them practically all the time. Now i am trying to get her off of using them for every day business. damn it! so hard to tell her anything.

great shoe - if anything she had to go a half size down from her regular shoe size.

    Dog walking shoes

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 8.0

These are pretty perfect for walking the dogs on the trails or just in the snow in general. The tread on these is pretty killer!

Normally I have a wide foot so Salomon can be a bit slender, went up a half size and they really fit great.

Will be getting a 2nd pair once I ruin the first ones.

    Dog walking shoes

    Not for long runs

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

The shoe is excellent, the grip amazing, the look fantastic BUT if you are planning to run in this shoe for more than 2 hours, you may need to change the insole, plus you may need to wear good socks. When I run an 11 mile off road orienteering race in them, my feet soles were sore for a week.

    Size down

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large

I bought these as a gift and they said they were a half size too big. She loved them other wise.

Push This Tread to the Limit!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 8.5

This is my third pair of trail running shoes - I've been trying to learn what's best for me as I get into tougher runs on trails here in Utah. It's pretty rooty and rocky out here, and after busting my ankle running downhill, I knew I needed a much grippier tread. The ankle support on this shoe was a huge sell, but it took some getting used to after running in a more minimal shoe (Brooks' Pure Grit).

The tread on these is like an off-road tire, and performs about as well - especially in mud. It really grips, and works best in looser dirt packs and rocks. Since the tread is so long, it does wear really quickly, even if you're careful to stay off pavement. I've learned that harder trails can definitely increase wear a lot more quickly than I'd like in a shoe like this, but I love them in the right terrain and I'll be keeping them for loose dirt, mud, and pebble situations. They are a BLAST on muddy trails. I feel like I can really rip downhill and in corners. I can't wait to see how they perform in light snow!

Best trail shoes for mountain running

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

I've been a runner for 12 years now have just recently switch over to these sneakers. I put a lot of tough miles on these shoes and they hold up great. I've never had a pair of sneakers keep such traction in mud and snow and even rock. I've been using them while I train for an ultra trail run and they far exceed the other brands I've used in the past. I'd recomend them to anyone who is looking for a trail shoe with a little extra suport. I primary use these for trail runs on flat ground and up mountains. They are also great for summer and fall hikes.
