Roval builds the Alpinist CLX as a complete system to shave critical grams and get the most strength out of every part. To reach the astonishing low-weight of 1284 grams for the set, Roval utilizes a precise carbon layup to optimize climbing efficiency. Wide bracing-angle AeroFlange hubs — that go through aerodynamic machining themselves — are laced with DT Swiss Aerolite T-head spokes to save weight while increasing strength and performance that are critical to hill-accelerations and momentum conservation. I've put it through the wringer

Wheelset weight: 1260g Front: 560 Rear: 690 (This wheelset was weighed out of the box. We weighed both wheels separately and then again together. It’s likely that the weight difference is just due to rounding on the scale we used). Tires used: Specialized Turbo Cotton Hell of The North Cassette: Shimano Hg-800 Rotor: Dura Ace 160mm Tube: Tubolito Road tube Tire weight: 260g Total weight of wheelset (tubes, tires, cassette, rotors, endcaps): 2.43kg (5lb 6oz) Rear total weight: 1.45kg Front total weight: 0.99kg “Holy crap those are light.” Were the first words uttered when taking these out of the box. There are lightweight carbon wheels, sure. But you’ll notice as you pull these out that there is a distinct difference in weight between these wheels and any other carbon wheels you may have used in the past. Roval keeps the design simple here with very clean logos and decals on the wheelset. The DT swiss internals sound super clean and engagement seems to be pretty quick. Although the wheelset is not tubeless compatible, the rim is still taped so the spoke holes are covered. Overall the wheelset looks super slick and very clean Out of the box, each wheel comes with its own carrying bag that you can use to transport it off the bike if needed. The bags each come with a small zipper that you can use to carry an extra tube, or small items. The wheels also came with a couple of extra spokes and nipples in case there are any issues down the road. Not to worry either, these wheels have it where it counts. On the climbs they are stiff and have a very nice power transfer. Obviously their weight makes them one of the most ideal wheelsets on the market for climbing. The DT hubs lend themselves to a good level of engagement for road wheels. You can also expect them to be compliant enough to create a smooth and comfortable ride. They have crisp handling that will allow you to make sharp turns on your descents and you won’t be buffeted around by crosswinds. Overall this wheelset is the pinnacle of what a climbing wheelset should be. Combine that with a solid design, and a fantastic warranty from Roval and to be honest, there’s not a KOM around that you won’t be able to conquer.
