Why We Like The BackStage Swing Away Platform Hitch Rack

The first hitch rack built with the ability to swing 180-degrees for easy access to the rear of your car, the RockyMounts BackStage is an ideal option for campers, dog owners, and anyone with a fully-loaded vehicle. This 2-bike rack uses a cantilever arm that maxes out at 41-inches for universal vehicle compatibility. RockyMounts equipped it with a handle at the end of the rack for easy use whether it's stowed or folded, and the folded position only sticks out about a foot for a compact design. It's easy to load and unload with 13-inches of spacing between the bikes, which also keeps them safe from making contact with each other while in transit.

Perfect So Far!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I've been using this rack on my Ford Maverick for about 6 months and it's been awesome. Assembly took about 45 minutes - if you have it shipped you do need to assemble just about every single part together, but the instructions are clear and all of the tools you need are included. The construction and materials are really simple and solid - no extra frills. The bike attachment to the rack is on-par with any other tray rack I've used (Kuat, Thule, etc.) - wicked simple. The swing-away feature is also wicked easy - just unscrew the handle a few turns an undo a couple of spring loaded poppets and you're good to go. RockyMounts has a great video detailing how to install and use the rack and it's worth checking out. The best part is how close it sits to the vehicle. Previously I used a Yakima Backswing and a Kuat NV 2.0 rack together to create the 2 bike carrying capacity and swing away function that the BackStage offers out of the box. Because of the length of those products, the rack sat super far away from my truck to the point where it looked a disproportional and increased the overall vehicle length way too much for my liking. The BackStage solves that issue by combining the swing away function with the tray rack in a really small footprint - now I have quick access to my truck bed with bikes mounted up and the truck is a reasonable length too.
