Based on the stout 35-millimeter chassis found on the gravity-inspired Lyrik, the RockShox Yari RC DebonAir 160 29/27.5+ Boost Fork is superbly smooth and controllable on high-speed descents with nasty rock sections just begging to pitch you over the bars. However unlike the Lyrik, the Yari RC is significantly cheaper, lending itself to self-sponsored enduro racers and all-mountain riders optimizing the price-to-performance equation of every last component going on their bike.
This particular Yari RC Fork is designed for long-travel 29ers and 27.5+ bikes with its wider design providing enough clearance for a 29 x 2.8-inch and 27.5 x 3.0-inch tires. Its 51-millimeter offset reduces the "dead space" between the steering axis and hub for nimble handling at low speeds, which is often needed for modern 29ers and 27.5+ rigs with slacker geometries.
For 2018, it's updated with increased negative air spring volume, or what RockShox refers to as DebonAir for greater plushness off-the-top, as well as increased mid-stroke support. Overall, DebonAir makes the newest Yari RC all the more sensitive to small bumps and terrain inconsistencies while preventing it from blowing through excess travel as you push it on steep descents and rowdy trail sections.
Instead of the newest Charger 2 damper found on the pricier Lyrik, the Yari RC retains RockShox's tried-and-true MotionControl RC damper unit. This damper gives you full control of low-speed compression and external rebound adjust, so you can dial in its low-speed compression to your exact riding preferences and the local terrain at hand. If you desire to upgrade in the future, the Charger 2 damper unit slides right in without a fuss, since it's essentially the same chassis as the newest Lyrik.
Please note, this Yari RC is available in Boost 15 x 110-millimeter spacing only and is compatible with SRAM's Torque Caps for even greater stiffness when precise tracking is desired across the rough stuff (you can purchase them separately, but they're not required). It's compatible with disc rotors ranging from 180 to 203 millimeters, which provide enough stopping power for enduro racing and the gravity-inspired riding this fork is aimed at.
