Designed to conquer anything the trail throws your way, the RockShox Pike RCT3 Dual Position Air 140 Boost (51mm Offset) 29/27.5+ Fork provides the ability to adjust its travel from 110- to 140-millimeters with the quick flick of a dial housed atop the left side of the fork. This allows you to fine-tune your fork's travel to the specific terrain at hand, which is especially useful for lowering it on extended climbs where a lower-travel fork is better for climbing efficiency. Best of all, when it's time to rip the high-speed descent, the fork opens up to its full 140 millimeters of travel to soak up bigger hits, chunky rock sections, and rowdy lines.
For 2018, the Pike RCT3 Dual Position gets an overhaul with the addition of RockShox's new Charger 2 damper unit. This damper retains the 3-position adjustability of the older model, but with greater range of low-speed compression tuning in the Open mode. The Pedal mode is re-tuned to provide a better feel along undulating hills and smooth climbs where a bit of added efficiency is welcome. Finally, the Firm setting remains virtually the same, except it's compatible with RockShox OneLoc remotes for locking out the front and rear ends simultaneously in racing scenarios and long climbs.
The 2018 Pike RCT3 Dual Position gets a revised chassis that's cut-out along the lowers to shave a bit of weight without compromising the Pike's legendary stiffness and precise handling, as it retains 35-millimeter stanchions. It's available in Boost spacing only to accommodate the stiffer wheels and larger tires becoming increasingly common. Speaking of tires, you'll find this fork clears up to 29 x 2.8 and 27.5 x 3.0-inch tires for greater traction and bump compliance.
Please note, this particular version of the Pike RCT3 has a 51-millimeter offset/rake, which reduces the "dead space" between the steering axis and hub. This is helpful in making 29ers and 27.5+ bikes more nimble at slow speeds, especially those with longer travel and relatively slack geometries.
