Keep your chain running smooth

Rock 'n' Roll Gold Lube is the middle child of their three chain lubes. It's not as thick as the Extreme and not as thin as the Absolute Dry. It's good for both mountain biking as well as high-performance road riding. The folks at Rock 'n' Roll say this one gives the best chain performance in terms of making your shifting faster. Gold lube makes a geared bike feel like a fixed-gear; the movement is that smooth. Like the Extreme, the Gold has a gel membrane suspended in the fluid. The membrane seeps deep into the rollers and stays there, keeping the metal parts flexing, moving smoothly, shifting crisply, and doing everything quietly.

Rock 'n' Roll lube cleans and lubes at the same time. Dribble it on by putting the bike in its biggest gear and backpedal. Drip from the top over the chainring or cog. Wipe off the excess. Shift to the small ring in front to wipe off the big ring. Wipe till the chain shines. You can ride right away, but letting the excess evaporate for a few hours or overnight is best. Rock 'n' Roll recommends not re-lubing until you hear squeaking. If you have more than one Rock 'n' Roll lube in your tool chest, you can put on the thicker formulations when it's wet and then apply the thinner when its dry and you don't have to degrease in between.

Rock 'n' Roll Gold Lube comes in a 16oz. bottle and should last you for several seasons.

Degrease first, then lube

Great product! Be sure to apply to a clean chain. I use WD 40 degreaser to clean my chain first. 4 stars because the bottle leaks. I highly recommend storing it in a zip lock bag.

    Degrease first, then lube

    Must Have

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just like everyone has said before, it works and works well. Will be purchasing this item again.

    My Go-To Lube

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

It's been said a half dozen times below, but it's true -- it just works. It's light, and goes on easy. It keeps my drivetrain running smooth without collecting nastiness, even in our dusty desert conditions. I generally reapply every few MTB rides.

    Just Works

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Usually use white lightning, but figured I'd give this a try. So far it's working great in the dry dusty conditions we have here in UT. As long as you follow the directions and wipe your chain really well there is no build up on the chain and it lasts for a couple rides.

    Can it work too well?

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This stuff lasts and lasts, so long it may create bad habits. Shake well, put it on, cycle the gears, let it sit, then wipe it off. I'm not a chain whisperer, maybe it's because this stuff keeps my chain quite, so I never have to worry about it.

    Chain lubes are different?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've gone through most of my life thinking chain lubes can't be all that different from each other. I've also endured some fairly unpleasant drive-train issues the past few years, experiencing super annoying grinding and blaming it on the switch the the new 1x setups. I would clean and lube everything, adjust everything perfectly, and my drive-trains (mostly sram X01 and XX1) would still not feel all that smooth after the first hundred miles or so. Finally though I switched to this Rock N Roll lube, and I'll be damned the grinding is gone and my drive-train feels as good as day 1. It is still hard for me to grasp how this lube can be so much better than the other name brand products I have had, but all I can say is the stuff works.

    Love this stuff

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This stuff works very well, I highly recommend picking some up. Doesn't pick up a lot of dirt while riding and keeps the chain very clean. You'll notice a big difference. Best $23 you'll spend on your bike.

Goes on and stays dry, and doesn't collect any extra nastiness. It also cleans up really really well. I recommend this lube as the best all around lube on the market! I don't use anything else (aside from other rock and roll lubes!)

    Notice a Difference

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As a former competitive cyclist, maintaining my bike was critical in order to reduce the chances of a malfunction during a race. Rock n Roll lube was (and continues to be) the only lube I use on my chain. It gets my chain super clean, and I actually notice a more fluid and efficient ride as well as better shifting after applying it. Highly recommend.

    Smooth Chain

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently switched to the Gold Lube when I ran out of the red dry lube. I've got nothing bad to say about this lube. Quick, easy, clean. I like the gold lube because I don't have to apply it as much as the dry. It seems to be great for both mountain and road biking. I haven't notice any more dust accumulation on my mountain bike when riding trails but I have noticed my roadie chain seems to pick up more grit with this lube. Just takes a little bit more to clean it the next lube round.

    Awesome lube

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My favorite, go to lube for road and mtn bike. Lasts much longer on the road and do not have to reapply very often. Keeps the chain quiet, clean and well functioning. Mtn bike rides in UT and CO are dry and dusty so I have to reapply about every ride. During a long 7 hr dusty mtn bike ride I started to hear some chain noise but I'm not surprised given the amount of grit. Follow the directions for application and it works great. Much cleaner to work with than oil based lubes.

    Best lube I've used

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I find that with this lube, it's not so much an oil... I reapply after every 1-2 rides (about 100 miles). As it says, clean off all excess, you can't wipe it down enough. Leaves the drive train silent, after 100 miles it starts to get black and pick up debris, but I believe this lube isn't thick enough to be left on for long durations. Excellent product if you're riding in the right terrain. I'm in PA and do road racing, perfect for what I do. Extremely recommended if you ride the road and like a clean quiet chain and don't mind frequent reapplications.

    Works great but attracts dirt

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought about 6 months ago and have put about 600 miles on my bike since. Need to re-apply regularly (about every 150 miles) or my drivetrain starts making noise. Used on the road only, in Southern California only in the dry and it attracts dirt like a big dog in heat. Directions say to spray on pretty liberally, soaking up excess immediately, so that's what I did. Wiped chain as dry as I could get it and waited for it to settle in before riding. Runs smooth, but had to wipe black crud off of chain or it would get all over my shoes, socks and leg. If you want the ultimate protection, it works well, but not worth the mess!

    Favorite Lube

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This stuff is great, shake it up, put it on, wipe it off and you are good to go. I lube my chain up with this stuff before every ride and it keeps my chain clean and silent. Just the way I like it.

    Not so Squeaky, but clean!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great product, When something says keep away from open flame, I know its gotta be good stuff. This is some of the best out there. Shake well, apply to your chain, have a beer, work on something else on your bike, then wipe fully off. Some of the quietest chain lube I've used and I have used tons and tons of products.

    Quiet bikes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This product worked very well for me during the 2012 mtb season. I really liked how long is worked. Switched to WD40 Bike tho, and it's the only thing I'll use now. In a pinch I'd buy the gold again.

    Simply Works

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been mountain biking for a long time and have used many different brands of chain lube. By far the Rock N Roll Gold seems to be the most functional. It lasts through 1-2 weeks of solid riding, including XC races.Rock N Roll actually made it so I ran an old chain too long - using this lube made my drivetrain a lot smoother than it should have. Just note that it is important to thoroughly wipe down the chain after application.

All good except the application process

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The good - makes drivetrain quiet, keeps chain (relatively) clean, really seems to clean the drivetrain as advertised.

The bad - the way you are supposed to apply it. It feels very wasteful to just drench the chain. In spite of all it's good qualities - Im not sure I can get over this part of it.

Also - as an aside, before using "Gold", I used the Absolute Dry (red). It also worked as advertised, but what a total mess to apply....
